The Ministry of Human Resource Development is a ministerial level agency of the State of Vishwamitra responsible for direction, formulation and implementation of policies related to education, literacy, skill development and promotion of literature.
The Ministry was initially established as the Ministry of Education on 15 April 2007 but was abolished on 2 October 2015 and was replaced by the Ministry of Culture.
The Ministry was re-established as Ministry of Human Resource Development by letters patent issued on 06th August 2017, by then President Dhrubajyoti Roy on the advice of the Prime Minister Tanishkaa Patranabish in order to accomodate former Vice-President Bishnu Chetry into the Council of Ministers. The Ministry was created by merging the Ministries of Culture, Information and Broadcasting, Skill Development into one. However, the Ministries of Culture & Information and Broadcasting were separated out soon. On 3 March 2020, the Ministry was renamed back as the Ministry of Education, but was again re-named to it's present form on 17 June 2020.
The Ministry is headed by a Cabinet Minister and is assisted by a Minister of State, who serves as a junior minister in the Ministry. The current Minister for Human Resource Development is Rajdeep Deka, who concurrently serves as the Minister of Culture and Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs.
