The Lyira (Lie-ra) is the currency unit of the Kingdom of Lytera and the Principality of Pelkesa. The currency was created in 2018 as a mere idea, and only came into production in August, with the design process starting in June 2019.
All the Banknotes show significant figures and locations of Lytera. The currency is valued as 75% of the Euro, though previously was worth 75% of the Pound. . The most noticeable shared feature is a picture of the current monarch, who, as of 2019, is Amelia I
Background
The idea for a currency first appeared in Lytera's early history, where a planned shared currency between it and The Republic of Clubhausia was considered. The plans fell through after the Great Ruislip War however, and Lytera stuck with using the Pound, Ideas for a currency then circulated again in 2018, during the anniversary of the Civil War. The currency was planned for a 2019 release, with work beginning on its design in June 2019. On August 10, the currency came into circulation, the same day the designs were first shown. In 2020, with Lytera severing relations with the United Kingdom, the currency was pegged to the Euro.
In 2023, the redesigned B-Series notes were unveiled, with a new design, both meant to be more simplistic yet complex. With the 15ȴ being discontinued for a lack of practical use, a new 500ȴ note was also released, with mixed reactions from the public. The note is being produced in limited quantities as a utility note and not expected to see widespread public use. A-Series currency will be legal tender until the 23rd of June, 2023, though will still be able to be traded in to the Bank of Lytera after this date.
