Yochtia, officially, The Free Commonwealth of Yochtia, is a self-declared sovereign nation, or more commonly known as a micronation to outsiders. Yochtia was declared in early October 2018 in Hong Kong. Today, Yochtia is a constituent Kingdom of Millania which has land claims in Hong Kong, with the larger predominant piece of land located in the United States.

Since the Age of Howellville, Yochtia is officially an constitutional monarchy, with Antonia I as the current Princess after the Princely Reformation on 1 March 2020. Nicolás Millán is the current First Minister, who resides as the advisor to the Princess, and Head of the Legislative Council.

Yochtia has a smaller service based economy primarily based on media, and music. Yochtia exports goods to other micronations and macronation. Yochtia scores a 3.3 in the Freayth's System of Classification.

Etymology

Yochtia derives from the slang term "Yeet," and the Millanian past tense "Yought." The suffix -ia is ofted associated with Land. The previous royal family, the Howell family, is associated with fortresses and grand estates. Therefore, the Yochtese translation of Yochtia is Yåktlánt. Yåkt is Fortress, and Lánt is land.

History

First Duchy

Edmund Howell wanted to create a state separate from Millania. After lengthy negotiations, The Duchy of Howellville became an independent state, and saw much development of its distinct culture.

Summit of Four Kingdoms

The Sultanate of Krallikkralligi was founded after the First Granadine-Cornosian War, during the Summit of Four Kingdoms. After Howelli officials voiced support for reunification along with Cornosia, Millania and Howellville unified (along with Cornosia), and Krallikkralligi was granted high autonomy as a constituent realm. The Government was reformed into a less centralized state, each region becoming an Emirate, and reforms across the nation occurred, allowing for a faster and more efficient political process.

Cornosian Union

The Cornosian Union unified Cornosia and Howellville (Name Changed), creating the Caliphate of Yochtia. Cornosia was forcefully placed into Union with Yochtia, whose government subsequently split into two autonomous regions, Husplantaenarstain and Kanershoff. Yochtia was again reformed, even creating its own legislature, the Althing. Eventually, the nation grew into a deep state of stagnancy.

Free Commonwealth Plan

The Emperor of Millania, Carlos I, petitioned the government to raise the Cornosian Regions to equal status and adopt the Free Commonwealth Plan, a democratic plan granting equal status to both groups.

Government and Politics

Yochtia is a representative democracy. The government is regulated by a system of checks and balances. In the Yochtese system, citizens are usually subject to one (and maybe two, dependent on administrative division) levels of government: federal, and local. In almost all cases, legislative officials are elected by a plurality vote of citizens by Region. There is no proportional representation at the federal level, and it is rare at lower levels.

The Yochtese government is composed of three branches:

  • Legislative: The unicameral Legislative Council, led by the appointed First Minister (who resides as speaker.) the Althing drafts federal laws, and has the power to wield the economy.
  • Executive: The Princess is the commander-in-chief of the Yochtese Auxiliary Forces of the military, can veto legislative bills before they become law, and appoints offices, who administer and enforce federal laws and policies.
  • Judicial: The High Court and lower prefectural courts, whose judges are appointed by the Princess, interpret laws and overturn those they find unconstitutional.

The members of the Legislative Council are elected in a Preferential System, which is more representative of voter population. The Yochtese Court, led by the High Justice of Yochtia, has one member, who serves for life. The local governments are structured in roughly similar fashion. The Governor of each Region is directly appointed. All laws and governmental procedures are subject to judicial review and any law ruled by the courts to be in violation of laws already instated is voided.

Political Parties

Yochtia has operated under a two-party system for all of its history. For elective offices at most levels, state-administered primary elections choose the major party nominees for subsequent general elections. Since the general election of 2018, the major parties have been the Liberal Party of Yochtia, founded in 2017, and the Yochtese National Party, founded in 2018. The Legislative Council consists of three elected officials.

Foreign Relations

Yochtia cannot form formal relations, but is allowed to send its own diplomatic missions for trade. Embassy level diplomatic postings in and/or run by Yochtia are known as "Legations", run by Legates. Yochtia currently has no Legations or diplomatic missions.

Administrative Divisions

Yochtia separates its administrative divisions into Prefectures under the Millanian administrative system, under a Unitary State under the Yochtese Crown and Legislative Council (Level of Local Legislature). The three prefectures are Yeetport (Circuit), Koraliland (Prefecture), and Cornosia (Circuit).
