The Cupertino Alliance Chair election is an election within the Cupertino Alliance to elect the next Chair and Lieutenant Chair. It took place between 9–11 August, with the winner of the election to take office on 15 August, the final day of Chairman Reeve's term. The winner was Varuna Sriraya, who served as the chair until he resigned on 4 November.
Background
Procedure
Article 26 of the Charter of the Cupertino Alliance states that "The Chair of the Board shall be an elected position elected by the delegates of the Alliance. He/she shall serve an unlimited number of six (6) month terms." [1]
Electoral reform
With the goal of having a more fair election, the electoral process was reformed, with the Fair Voting Act ,[2] authored by Tyler Mullins, an act similar to the proposed National Voting Act [3] by Daniel Hamilton, passing unanimously in the Cupertino Alliance Parliament, with the electoral system changed from delegate voting to national voting, in which a nation, regardless of how many delegates they have, gets only one vote. On 11 August 2021, the Campaign Behavior Act ,[4] authored by Tyler Mullins, was passed. The act provides a set of expectations for how election candidates must act during campaign season, in addition to punishments for breaking these expectations.
Candidates
Registration for the elections were opened on 15 June 2020, a month before the official campaign period, with Daniel Hamilton and Liam Alexander registering their ticket a day after. Brennan Sullivan and Leon Montan registered their ticket 3 days after Hamilton and Alexander, and so did David Hawthorne and David Augustus. On 22 June Liam Alexander announced an indefinite break from micronationalism, voiding the Hamilton-Alexander ticket, and on the same day, Varuna Sriraya and Tyler Mullins registered their ticket. Alexander was replaced by James Bornstein 3 days after, with Hamilton re-registering the new ticket. On 27 June David Hawthorne ended the Hawthorne-Augustus campaign, and publicly endorsed the Sriraya-Mullins ticket. Registrations were closed on 15 July, with Brennan Sullivan suspending the Sullivan-Montan campaign minutes after the registration closed. The current candidates are:
