Fade into View is the second album of micronationalist Simon Reeve, released on 16 July 2021 by the Aenopian record company 3 Rings Albums. It was produced solely by Reeve using Soundtrap. Fade into View was recorded over a period of 3 months from April to July 2021, consisting of 7 songs. Recording of the album was mostly slowed down by Reeve's tenure in the Cupertino Alliance. The album was initially released to YouTube as a complete video, with the songs released independently later.[1]
Background
Following the release of Birddog on 8 March 2021, Reeve took a brief break in order to focus on the Cupertino Alliance and other projects within the micronational community. Despite this, some songs were produced during this period, albeit at a slower pace. Reeve would release the first single, Odyssey Part 2, on 28 April 2021. Intended to be the successor to Odyssey Part 1: Indulgence of the Senses, the song was partially recorded in March 2021 during the production of Birddog however was omitted from the album in favour of releasing Birddog sooner.
The album and title track single were released to YouTube on 16 July 2021.
Recording
Fade into View was recorded over the course of 3 months, during which 7 songs were produced. Reeve continued attempting to create a progressive rock theme with Fade into View, which is present in Odyssey Part 2 and VT68A. Numerous songs, including Odyssey Part 2 and Fade into View, were partially recorded during the production of Birddog (album) in February 2021, however were omitted from the debut album in anticipation for Fade into View. Some songs were partially influenced by pre-existing songs, such as FiV's End, which was influenced by Duke's End by Genesis.
Many songs on the album, such as VT68A and FiV End share a similar theme, particularly involving intentionally identical keyboards.
Packaging
The cover was designed by Reeve himself using Inkscape. The front depicts a green and blue circle overlapping each over on a black background; a reference to the album name. The covers for the singles also depicted similar imagery, however involved different colours and sizes. Like Trains, single covers intentionally shared a theme with the album cover, with the former depicting trains.
The main idea for the album covers were planets actually - when I initially produced the album cover, it reminded me of planets and moons. So I decided to keep the themes for the singles Odyssey Part 2 and Fade into View; the former featured a numerous objects around a primary body, whilst the latter featured another object peeking above the horizon. The biggest influence was definitely interpretation though - I may see planets whilst someone may not see anything.
