The National Academy, officially the National Academies of the Federated States of Gapla, is a public school in the Federated States of Gapla. It is currently the nation's only public school, and is one of three schools in the country, including the Royal Gaplastovian Academy.

Founded in 2015 by Wyatt Baek under the United Republics of Gapla and Phoenix, the Academy provided remedial support for students who were struggling in school subjects. These students were taught with textbooks created by Wyatt Baek, and eventually other instructors. While initially focusing on mathematics, the school offers courses in a variety of subjects at a multitude of levels today.

Unlike many other micronational schools, the National Academy is in full operation as any other small school would be. The school has classes meeting weekly on Zoom, with rare in-person classes in a facility rented hourly. This is likely due to the high value of education placed in the country leading to a demand for education, presumably due to a more intellectually gifted population, as Gapla was founded inside a gifted program.

Divisions

The National Academy is known as the National Academies because it is technically not a single school, but rather a network of three closely connected schools: the National Academy, the National Gifted Academy, and the National Special Educational Academy.

While the National Academy has the highest enrollment rate by far, a few students are enrolled in the National Gifted Academy, a separate school serving students with an IQ of 124 for higher. No students are currently enrolled in the National Special Educational Academy, serving students who have an IQ of 76 or below or have another disability. The boundaries of 124 and 76 where chosen as they are currently the legal bounds for intellectual giftedness and disability in the Federated States of Gapla.

Through a comprehensive, professionally developed IQ test, the National Academies places students in one of its three campuses. Taking the test, or submitting a score from another, approved IQ test, is required to enroll in core academic courses, but not in electives or computing courses. Students who have not been tested, and who enroll in electives or computing courses, are placed in the National Academy. The requirement of an IQ test has caused controversy within Gapla, but school officials have retained the requirement, claiming that the requirement allows the school to better serve the unique needs of and more effectively identify students who are gifted or have intellectual disabilities.

Campuses

The following is a list of the campuses of the National Academies. All three schools operate on all three campuses.

  • The National Academies, Virtual Campus
  • The National Academies, Von Karman Campus (rented hourly when used)
  • The National Academies, Morse Campus (rented hourly when used)

In addition to grade level mathematics, which is self-paced and individualized, the National Academy offers the following courses in mathematics. For reference, Calculus SV is equivalent to AP Calculus BC in the United States.
