Stories and Tales
The Tale of Vinum
Vinum was a young man in the city of Rem. He was born to the Divine of War and his mortal mother Gloria. Though a strong a virtuous man, he was hated by the god Pietas since he was a bastard, born outside of marriage. She was enraged that he existed and held the position of a Demi divine. To remedy this she had a witch create a potion to steal away his divinity, making him into a mortal again. She snuck it into his wine while he was waging war on other cities.
When he finally was alerted by his father of what happened he pleaded to the Goddess to return his divinity. She said she would under the condition he slay 3 mighty beasts terrorizing man and gods alike. He unwillingly accepted as to not disrespect his father by showing signs of cowardice.
The first beast he had to slay a lion with iron skin. For 12 years no man has been able to puncture its skin. But Vinum had a different plan. He would instead poison it, but how? He pondered this for 5 nights and 5 days until he devised a plan.
He poisoned a sheep from his village and lured it into the lions den. After quickly running out of the cave he listens carefully, until the crunching and croaking stopped. He went into the cave and found the sheep, missing its lower body, still alive and the lion dead. He skinned the lion with its own claws and used its skin as armor.
His second beast was a large four headed snake of the god Ventus. Each of its heads wielded a different element and not even his armor alone would be able to deal with it. He dealt with this by tricking the snake to leading its heads would a small tunnel, where it got stuck.
He lifted a large circular stone to block off his side of the tunnel and in anger the snake breathed all four elements at it. The fire, earth, wind, and water and clashed at the rock until the small space was full. The snake died of suffocation and drowning. It was beheaded and delivered to the goddess.
His final beast was to slay a ghost who was a devout follower of Bellum. Knowing he couldn't beat it he tricked it into chasing him into the underworld where it was immediately vaporized.
After completing his final task he was awarded his divinity and name The Demi Divine of Wine, Drink, and Combat.
