Taoshin (Chinese:陶善), is a philosophical, ethical, and religious tradition that blends Taoism within Shinto. In Taoshin, however, Tao denotes something that is both the source and the force behind everything that exists. It is defined as an action-centered religion, focused on ritual practices to be carried out diligently, to establish a connection between present-day Chaowanese and its ancient past. Founded in 220 BC according to mythology, Taoshin practices were first recorded and codified in the written historical records of the Tao, De, Wuji, Taiji, Kojiki and Nihon Shoki in the 21st century. Still, these earliest Chinese writings do not refer to a unified "Taoshin religion", but rather to a collection of native beliefs and mythology.
