The State of Galveston, formerly known as the Republic of Galveston, is a Federal state of the Empire of Paravia originally founded on June 2, 2015 as a self-declared micronation before going defunct and being reestablished as a federal state on July 22, 2016. It was originally a result of the split from the Federated States. One of the senators in the Federated States, Brandon Wu, founded Galveston. Galveston has four citizens, who are led by the monarch, Brandon I.

In November 2016, Brandon I had left micronationalism for a break. The inactivity from the then incumbent President had led to former Federated States' President Henry Twain being declared Acting President of the State of Galveston. This action was taken with approval from Wu and Patrick I, Emperor of Paravia. On July 8, 2017, Brandon once again became the President, and four days later restructured the government into a constitutional monarchy. Additionally, Brandon laid two extra land claims in Northwest China and Northeast China, expanding Galveston from its original claim in Southeast Texas.

Galveston's Capital Territories seceded from Paravia in July 2017 in order to become an independent micronation, with the Silk Road and Nei Mongol Territories staying Paravia. However, on 2 January 2018, Brandon ceded back the Capital Territories to Paravia due to inactivity within the micronation.

History

Founding

On 2 June 2015, the President and all of the legislature resigned from the Federated States due to many issues relating to the government. Brandon Wu, one of the members of the Congress, left and founded the Republic of Galveston. The country began with 3 citizens encompassing himself and his family, however, did not succeed out of lack of interest from other citizens. Due to this inactivity, around one year later on July 22, 2016, Wu integrated the Republic of Galveston into a Federal State of Paravia, thus changing the name into The State of Galveston.

A couple months later, Wu became burnt out from micronationalism, leading him to decide to take a hiatus and leave the micronational community in November 2016. During the end of 2016, Galveston had no representation at the Paravian Chamber of Delegates as well as no activity in the micronation at all. This resulted in Wu immediately declaring fellow micronationalist and friend Henry Twain the Acting President of Galveston.

On June 8, 2017, Wu returned to micronationalism and slowly began the process of reintegrating to the community. By July 8, 2017, Wu was confident that he would be able to lead Galveston again, and became the President again. However, the problem of inactivity still remained in Galveston, meaning that there was an issue with the government. This led to a complete restructuring of the government on July 12, 2017 into a constitutional monarchy, proclaiming Wu as Huangdi Brandon I. Additionally, Brandon claimed land in the city of Urumqi, China creating the Silk Road Territory as well as multiple areas in Chifeng, China, being called the Nei Mongol Territories. The State of Galveston Galveston, as of July 2017, has the Capital Territories with claims in Galveston, TX and Houston, TX, the Silk Road Territory in Northwest China, and the Nei Mongol Territories in Chifeng, China. Galveston also now ranges across three time zones across the world - with eleven citizens total from all three territories.

Government and politics

The State of Galveston was once a republic, a state in which the supreme power rested in the body of citizens entitled to vote and was exercised by representatives chosen directly or indirectly by them; a state in which the head of government wasn't a monarch or other hereditary head of state. Now, Galveston is currently a Constitutional Monarchy, with the monarch Brandon I declaring a period of a 'jinzhi zhuangtai' (roughly translated to a state of emergency), writing up a Constitution to serve its eleven citizens and ensuring a government that represents its people.

Law and order

The current judicial system has not been established yet. It is being created whilst during the 'jinzhi zhuangtai' period in the Constitution.

Foreign relations

The Republic of Galveston recognized the following micronations/organizations, before joining Paravia:

Geography

Overall characteristics

The State of Galveston's three territories shares borders with three entities, being the Essian Commonwealth, the macronation of China, and the largest border with the w:United States. Both the Nei Mongol Territories and Silk Road Territories are landlocked, being both completely surrouned by the People's Republic of China. However, the Capital Territories are surrounded mostly by the United States, but also bordering the Gulf of Mexico.

Galveston consists of three main territories: the Capital Territories, the Nei Mongol Territories, and the Silk Road Territory. The Capital Territories consists of Brandon I's home as well as Galveston Island, thus how the name of the micronation was created. The Nei Mongol Territories consists of multiple pieces of land in Chifeng, China, and the Silk Road Territory has a piece of land in Urumqi, China.

Climate

The State of Galveston's Capital Territories have a humid subtropical climate. While the State of Galveston is not located in "Tornado Alley", like much of the rest of Texas, spring thunderstorms sometimes bring tornadoes to the area. Winds are from the south and southeast during the year, which create heat and moisture from the nearby Gulf of Mexico causing humid and hot conditions in the State of Galveston. During the summer months, it is common for temperatures to reach over 90 °F , with an average of ~106–107 days per year, including a majority from June to September, with a high of 90 °F or above and ~4 days at or over 100 °F. The State of Galveston has mild winters in contrast to most other micronations in the United States. Localized flooding often occurs, owing to the extremely flat topography and widespread clay-silt soil, which do not drain quickly.

The Nei Mongol Territories has a continental steppe climate. The area has long and dry winters as well as hot and humid summers. Monthly temperatures can range from −10.7 °C (12.7 °F) in its coldest months to 23.6 °C (74.5 °F) in its hottest months, with an annual average of 7.49 °C (45.5 °F). Snow storms do occur in the Territories, but are never endangering to its citizens. Almost the majority of rainfall occurs in the summer months of July or August and afterwards we see dry and sunny weather is prevalent in the city. With monthly percent possible sunshine ranging from 55% in July to 71% in January and February, sunshine is abundant year-round, and the city receives 2,866 hours of bright sunshine annually, about 65% of the possible total.

Culture

The State of Galveston currently has no "official" religion, however, all citizens are all officially atheist. The government has English and Chinese as its official languages. Its current three territories have differing and various cultures. In the Capital Territories, where most citizens speak English, we see macronational American culture spread across the area, with characteristics of Hispanic culture tied in. Food and cuisine is a very important part of Galvestonian culture, with both traditional 'Western' and 'Eastern' food being served across the Capital Territories.

However, in both the Nei Mongol Territories and Xinjiang Territories, lies majority Oriental culture, where we see only Mandarin Chinese being spoken. Additionally, music and arts are all based on macronational Chinese culture. In both territories, the importance of keeping tradiitional culture is very important, as well as Mongolian and Central Asian culture being present. Examples include traditional Mongol and Uyghur music as well as horesback riding to show the territories traditional roots. The title of the monarch, Huangdi Brandon I come from traditional Chinese names.
