The Duchy of the Lowcountry was a micronation founded on 27 March 2015. Led by the Duke, it was superseded by The Principality of Avetia, a sub-state of The Byzantine-American Empire.
Etymology
The Lowcountry is a region in South Carolina close to the coast. Charleston, Myrtle Beach, and many other cities are considered in the Lowcountry.
History
The Duchy of the Lowcountry existed for a few weeks before its actual founding as a loose idea or collection of people. On 27 March 2015, a Constitution was signed, officially forming the Duchy of the Lowcountry.
On 29 May 2015, the MNTO Affair occurred, lasting until 30/31 May 2015. It is documented under Foreign Relations.
Government and politics
The Duke, Head of State, Head of Defense, and Head of Diplomacy control the government with the aid of Provincial Tribunes.

The MNTO Affair
A small alliance resulted in the creation of the MNTO on 25 May 2015. Shortly afterwards, the Duke left, citing a corrupt leader as his reason. After publicly exposing this on the Micronation.org forum, a trial was held. It ran from 29 May 2015 to 31 May 2015. At this point, both parties came to an agreement, saying the trial was pointless. An agreement was reached, and everything was figured out.
Military
The Duchy of the Lowcountry's military is divided into two parts: The National Guard, a reserve defense force, and the Air Force, who maintain and fly the Cessna 310 the Duchy uses. The Lowcountry does not currently have a Navy.
Lowcountry Space and Aeronautics Administration
On 2 June 2015, the LSAA was created. It currently flies only model rockets. (two of which have F level engines, which are quite powerful.)
Geography and climate
The Duchy of the Lowcountry is a mostly flat forest with some water. It's hot nearly all year round but can reach as low as 65-70 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter.
Economy
The Duchy has its own currency, divided into 3 coins with a blanket term "Lowcountry Coins" The Denar, a small golden colored coin is worth 25 US cents. The next highest is the Stavraton, a small white-colored coin worth 50 US cents. Finally, the Solidus, a royal-blue colored coin worth 100 US cents or 1 US dollar. On 2 June 2015, a subsidies program was created. Any person who wished to create a business or otherwise help develop the economy would be given funding to help in their endeavor. Then, on June 12, the first company in the Lowcountry was founded: Lowcountry Digital.
Culture
The culture is a blend of southern and Lowcountry. Sweet tea, porches, and comfort food are all common. Lowcountrians are also very nationalistic or patriotic but do not ever want to expand from the Lowcountry. The Lowcountrians take pride in living there, more than anything.
Media
The only real source of news or Lowcountrian made entertainment is the state-sponsored Friday Post. While it is mostly news, there are bits of fictional stories added in the pages for entertainment. A dormant YouTube channel is also awaiting content. Additionally, Lowcountry Digital sells some entertainment.
