Prince Anthony of Marienbourg (Mirandese: António; Belo Horizonte, Brazil, 30 May 1945) is a Prince of Marienbourg and one of the two co-owners of the properties and estates that make up the Marienbourgish national territory. He was elected Prefect of Orangenbäume. He is the fourth child and older son of Geraldo II, Prince of Marienbourg[a] and Francisca Carvalho, Princess Consort, and as such he is a great-uncle of Arhur V, current reigning Duke of Marienbourg.

In 1986 Anthony and his brother Edison moved to the country town of Poços de Caldas after purchasing a medium-sized farm. Eventually Anthony also bought a small hotel but, facing bankruptcy, was rescued from losing the property by his brother who bought his partneship in the business. In 2022 Anthony and Edison granted Arthur, grandson of his late sister Maria III, sovereignty over family possessions in the municipality, which in turn became part of the Duchy of Marienbourg, of which the brothers, as well as the rest of Arthur's maternal family, they were made princes.

Biography

Early life and family

Prince Anthony was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. His name, in Portuguese and Mirandese, is António. He was the fourth surviving child and first surviving son of Gerald II, Prince of Marienbourg, and Francisca, Princess Consort. Anthony had an older brother, Fausto, born in 1931, but who died in 1934. A member of the Carvalho family, of Portuguese origin, Anthony was the grandson of Ana de Carvalho, the first member of the family in the territory that would become Marienbourg; he was the brother of Maria III, who would succeed Geraldo in 1962 (as Head of the Carvalho family), uncle of Marilia IV and great-uncle of Arthur V, founder and first Duke of Marienbourg .

Career and business

In 1986 António, who had worked informally on the family farm and later as a foreman, together with his brother Edison, purchased a 58-acre farm in the municipality of Poços de Caldas, in the interior of the state Brazilian from Minas Gerais, where his grandmother had lived at the beginning of the 20th century. The brothers managed to transform the farm into a producer of citrus fruits and wood for local furniture manufacturing.

In 1998 Anthony ventured into the hotel business, taking advantage of the city's economic growth due to tourism related to its waters and became a partner-investor in Hotel d'Oeste. However, after the boom largely provided by the government's Real Plan, the city went into rapid economic decline and Anthony was practically forced to buy out the other partners in the hotel. In 2002 he declared bankruptcy and the state government was about to put the hotel up for auction when his brother Edison offered to become a partner in the business, although he had previously discouraged Anthony precisely because he believed he was being tricked into paying the hotel debts.
