The Union of Nemkhav Communists (UNC) (Nemkhav: Antas Communistja Nemkhavi) is a political party in the Nemkhav Federation, and is the current ruling party of Nemkhavia, holding four of the seven seats in the Nemkhav Legislature, the House of Territories. The Party's roots lie in the former Democratic Revolutionary Front, which had combined four left wing parties in Nemkhavia into a bloc but during March 2012 the Front, as it was known in Nemkhavia, moved to become a more defined political force and as a result unified the four former parties of the DRF into a single party with regional sub-sections, although the UNC was reduced to three members for a brief period of time due to the end of Eragia’s backing for the Party because of its shift to the newly reestablished Vanguard for Freedom. However, New Winterdown soon replaced it, restoring the UNC’s majority in the House of Territories.

At present the UNC holds both the roles of the President of the Nemkhav Federation and the Prime Minister of the Nemkhav Federation after the March 2012 elections which saw Alex Ulbricht run unopposed on behalf of the UNC. Although the party are now are de facto rulers of Nemkhavia, it has on several occasions pledged its commitment to the upholding of the democratic processes within the country.

History

The foundations of the UNC were laid in December 2011, with the foundation of the Democratic Revolutionary Front. The Front provided the left-wing states within Nemkhavia a Federation-level political voting bloc, as opposed to the prior fragmented nature of the left in Federation-wide political issues. It was initially set up after talks between Marka Mejakhansk and Alex Ulbricht, the latter of whom chose to enter the Revolutionary Unity Party and the Socialist Unity Party of Lewisham into the DRF. Later, both the Yurtyzstani Workers' Party under the leadership of J.J. Hakimoto and the Socialist Party of Eragia led by by Ben McKinlay entered into the Front.

Due to the departures of states such as Pristinia, the DRF went from being the smallest party within the Federation's political structure to the majority party within a matter of two months. This dominance over the Nemkhav political system had been aided by the lack of partisan opposition to the Front, due to the inactivity of both the Vanguard for Freedom and the Conservative Party.

In March 2012, talk of creating a more unified structure for the left-wing in Nemkhavia was bounded around the DRF's Skype room. This talk amounted to a conference organised for 14 March, which resulted in the dissolution of the DRF and the establishment of the Union of Nemkhav Communists, along with its internal structures and leadership systems. Alongside the creation of the party itself, Alex Ulbricht was selected as the Party's Presidential candidate after Marka Mejakhansk decided to drop out of the race. Due to the lack of opposition to Ulbricht as a candidate he had to pass a motion of confidence from the states, something which was passed with a unanimous positive vote.

Ideology

The nature of the Federation in which the Union operates has a great baring upon its ideology, which is greatly linked to that of Josip Broz Tito with the general assertion of “local solutions for local issues”. This approach to politics fits in remarkably well with the Federation due to its diverse nature and global spread. It is highly unlikely that the same solution would work in Ireland, where Nemkhavia’s capital resides, and on the North American continent, where Yurtyzstan is; therefore the flexible approach to the building of Socialism in Nemkhavia was taken. Along with the practical implications of Titoism, historically and culturally Nemkhavia has always been likened to Yugoslavia, this link with Yugoslavia is something which the party has looked to for further inspiration for policy creation and in its approach to the rights of individual states within the Federation itself.

Although taking the name of a Communist Party, which is often linked to dictatorship and bad practices on a governmental level, the UNC has dedicated itself to the establishment of Democratic Socialism, something which has been so far proven by the ardent upholding of Nemkhav democratic institutions in the face of the UNC overall domination of the political system. The Party has expressed its openness and wish for non-leftist states to enter the Federation to increase the depth of the political nature of the country. The UNC’s first Nemkhav President, Alex Ulbricht, has said “We don’t want to discourage or discriminate against states entering the Federation which aren’t left-wing in nature; in fact we welcome them with open arms! Political debate and real opposition will keep us on our toes and stop us from falling into the trap of complacency”.

Structure

The UNC is a decentralised party by the nature of the nation in which it operates. There are regional subdivisions for each state involved, which run the effective government over that particular state, this is in line with the idea that the party follows of increased state rights, allowing more autonomy within the Federation for all involved.

The regional subdivisions of the party currently are:

Workers for a Socialist Yurtyzstan

Workers for a Socialist Yurtyzstan is a moderate socialist party in Yurtyzstan, formerly known as the Yurtyzstani Workers' Party. Historically, Workers for a Socialist Yurtyzstan have held total control over the Yurtyzstani political system; however, following democratic reforms in late 2011 and early 2012, it holds less of an iron grip on the government.

The Central Committee occasionally meets at high-profile conventions; Six-Month Plans are drafted at said conventions. The Secretary General is J.J. Hakimoto, and the Vice Secretary-General is Oon Em Pyo Iid.

Communist Unity Party (Lewisham)

Main article: Communist Unity Party
The Communist Unity Party of Lewisham, previously known as the Socialist Unity Party, is the only active party in the Lewisham Democratic Republic. It is considered to be on the far-left of the political spectrum and it currently controls the local government of the Lewisham Democratic Republic, where the party is based and run from, via the People's Chamber where it holds the majority of the seats.

Communist Party of Novomir

The Communist Party of Novomir is the inheritor of the original Nemkhav left-wing movement, the Nemkhav People's Party. It currently holds all seats in the "Landtag", or state parliament, and generally follows a Titoist philosophy. It is the only party in the Republic, but it is not constitutionally mandated to be so. It is based in the original headquarters of the NPP in the state capital, Paterstadt.

Each regional subdivision elects one representative from its own ranks to sit in the Politburo of the Party itself. This Politburo effectively directs policy through discussion of views that appear across member states. Once every 3 months a new Chairman is elected, however the position is used to have a person to guide discussions in the Politburo rather than a figure who comes to dominate proceedings. The regional subdivisions have their own particular structures, but they very much follow the same general route of democratic representation, building up to the top level of the Party, the Politburo.
