The Speaker is elected for a four-year term. Speakers may serve for a maximum of three terms, which need not be consecutive. All eligible Kohlandian citizens aged at least 21 years old may stand for election as Speaker of the House. While in office, the Speaker is referred to as "Mister Speaker" or "Madam Speaker"; with the Speaker deciding which style they wish to use for the duration of their term.
The Speaker is the fourth in line of primacy in the Government of Kohlandia, after the Crown, the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister.

Absence of the Speaker
When the Speaker is unavailable, their duties pass to the Leader of the House on a temporary basis. If neither the Speaker nor the Leader of the House are available, Parliament will be required to vote in an Acting Speaker to serve until the Leader or Speaker are available again.
