Kohlandian Law
Legislation within the Kingdom of Kohlandia | |
---|---|
Kohlandian Law is composed of decisions made using the Royal Prerogative or, more commonly, Bills passed via the Kohlandian Parliament which have then received Royal Assent; becoming an Act of Parliament. Both Acts of Parliament and decisions under the Royal Prerogative gain their legal weight through the Kohlandian Constitution, which is the supreme law of the country.
Enactment of Laws
Bills are laid before Parliament by the Executive or members of Parliament. The Bill is then read and debated before any amendments to the Bill are presented and debated. The amendments, if any, are then voted on and those which receive a majority vote in favour become part of the Bill. The Bill is then voted on and, if successful, is sent to the Crown for Royal Assent. If Royal Assent is granted, the Bill becomes and Act of Parliament and therefore law.
Laws enacted via Royal Prerogative are laid down as Edicts. This process is rare.
