Ergatism (Greek: εργατισμός, ergatismós "workers, work") is a labor movement and ideology that originally sprouted from the Kingdom of Fontasia. It is a socially conservative ideology, advocating for workplace democracy, nationalism, socialism and regulationism,[1] anti-welfare policies. Ergatists were often defined as “young workers that supported the employment of the masses.”

Ergatists also supports forms of revolutionary expansionism, their beliefs revolving around a hypothetical "Destined State" in which there would be little to no welfare, but rather better working conditions and worker's rights. Ergatists believed that welfare stunted economic growth, and that society without it would industrialize rapidly.

Ergatists are generally viewed as conservatives, supporting a variety of protectionist, anti-globalist, and centralized economies. Ergatists usually found themselves at odds with communists and pro-welfare, socialized labor standpoints. Ergatists often support conservative-socialist movements due to economic policies. A key tenet in Ergatism was based on social Darwinism, or the idea that those who cannot sustain themselves will die off, and that the strong would as a result lead society.

Ergatists believe that welfare empowers the weak by allowing those who are capable of working to voluntarily choose to not work and still make a living off government-provided programs. Ergatists, on the other hand, believed that those with disabilities and clear disadvantages deserved welfare and full protection. This belief also applied to Ergatism’s relatively xenophobic beliefs as well. Employment, to an Ergatist, was the most valuable advantage a person could have. Workers in an Ergatist society are permitted to have more flexibility, being able to take days off and have vacations if needed for their health or leisure.

On 15 April 2022 the King of Fontasia, Conor I published the Doctrine of the Ergatist Struggle, the first ideological manifesto of Ergatism. In August 2022 the second edition was published, going into more detail about economic theories. On 9 September 2022, King Conor I of Fontasia, creator of Ergatism declared himself Patron of Ergatism, becomimg the ceremonial leader of the Ergatist world. On 20 September 2023, ergatist Thomas Jacobs installed himself as Patron, and commanded a rebirth of the movement.

History

The tenets of Ergatism dated as far back as 2019, when Emperor Conor I sought to establish an ideology where upper class individuals would be subject to working lower class jobs, as a form of class collaboration. During this time, he partook in massive construction efforts in Lewisport, a city in the modern Kingdom of Fontasia. He hoped to be seen as a "Working Nobleman."

In early 2021, with the establishment of the Centropolis Trading Post, an event that caused the standard of living and economy of Assemblia to explode, the "Working Nobleman" beliefs once again gained popularity, along with a few added elements to the idea. By late 2021, the first Ergatist group was created, although still lacking the Ergatist name.

Into 2022, Ergatism became extremely popular in Assemblia, eventually becoming the national ideology of the Kingdom of Fontasia before the creation of the Fontasian Supreme Directorate on 25 May 2022. A few Ergatist parties were established in other micronations as well. In August 2022 the second edition of “The Ergatist Manifesto” was published, going into further detail about various economic theories. On 9 September 2022, King Conor I of Fontasia, creator of Ergatism declared himself Patron of Ergatism, with this becoming the ceremonial leader of the Ergatist world.

In late 2022, there were four major variants of Ergatism. Classical Ergatism, in which the Ergatist Manifesto was written about, Fontasian Ergatism, the closest relative to Classical Ergatism, but far more nationalistic, and Euro-Ergatism, which integrated many elements of Classical Ergatism and other variants of free market capitalism and Hibernophillia. On 29 November 2022 the Third Ergatist Manifesto was published by the Patron of Ergatism, adding major points of Cultural, Masculine and Feminine Renaissance to the ideology.

After months of stagnation into the new year, plans to officially discontinue the ideology became a prominent topic of discussion. As Conor became more associated with the ideals of Parstollism, he began to sway away from the Ergatist ideology, describing it as a “knock-off Fascism” at its dissolution. On 10 April 2023, Ergatism was officially merged with Parstollism, dissolving the movement entirely, and effectively turning Fontasia into a Parstoll state. In September 2023 Thomas Jacobs revived the movement [2].

Ideological Symbolism

Ergatist symbolism is present across the micronational community, and used frequently by many Ergatist movements abroad. The universal Ergatist symbols are the Rake and the Shovel, along with some inclusion of a green color scheme. Each object holds a respective meaning:

Rake- Representing the hard work of workers across the world. Derived from a farmer's rake. The secondary meaning of the rake was "cleaning up," as traditionally Ergatists in autumn would rake up dead leaves from trees in preparation for winter.

Shovel- Symbolizing the reconstruction of society and the strength of the individual, also the excavation of new ideas. Derived from a regular digging shovel.

Green- Representing "spring" or "youth," as plants in springtime regenerate their green leaves. Connotatively meant the rebirth of a nation.

Creed of Lewisport

The Creed of Lewisport also known as the Ergatist Oath is a swearing of allegiance to the Ergatist ideology and to the Patron of Ergatism, committed as an act of entry into the Ergatist belief. It was written and created by Sean Dunkerque.

The oath read:

“I affirm my commitment to Ergatist values, the belief in unity of Ergatist associations internationally, the submission to the Patron of Ergatism and his teachings, and my support of the young Ergatist workers worldwide.”

Fontasian Ergatism

Fontasian Ergatism was a form of Ergatism that was centered around the Kingdom of Fontasia and the Fontasian people. It was the direct child of original Ergatist doctrine, and the most orthodox variant of Ergatism. Fontasian Ergatism advocated for a highly ultranationalistic, Assemblic supremacist and Conorian Ergatist Fontasian state lead by King Conor I, who was also the creator of the Ergatist ideology itself. Another integral component was the formation and establishment of a Greater Fontasian state that had redeemed and reclaimed all previously held Fontasian lands.

Trasenic National Ergatism

Trasenic National Ergatism was a former Ergatist variant created by former Ergatist thinker and politician Sean Dunkerque of Trasona. This variant of Ergatism espoused an ideology closer to that of Authoritarian Capitalism and Irredentism, as compared to Classical Ergatist syncretic beliefs and the Fontasian Ergatist Fascist-Falangist beliefs. Trasona has since collapsed, making the variant defunct.

Euro-Ergatism

Euro-Ergatism was a variant of Ergatism created by Thomas Jacobs of Roscamistan. This variant followed political Catholicism, semi-free-market economics, Irish nationalism, and Hiberophillia, compared to Classical Ergatist syncretic beliefs and the Fontasian Ergatist Fascist-Falangist beliefs.

Associated or similar ideologies

Pars Tolerantia! also known as the Party of Tolerance and under Ergatism as Social Ergatism is a political ideology established in the Empire of Meritia, which has further grown tremendous influence in the Kingdom of Scynja. The ideology was regarded as extremely similar to Ergatism in cultural and economic policy, although it developed without any influence from Ergatism. The main key differences lied in the social policies of the two groups, however they remained with similar economic beliefs, although Social Ergatism was generally more critical of Libertarianism [1] and Laissez-Faire [2] Economics, and was typically Pro-Regulationist on most issues.[3] After the events of 10 April 2023, Ergatism and Parstollism were merged, at last combining the two extremely similar movements under one.

Spectrum

Types of government

Although it was deemed possible to adapt Ergatism to all political affiliations, Classical Ergatism considered itself as a third-party syncretic ideology.

Fontasian Ergatism had sometimes been considered a hybrid of Fascism and Falangism, as it was highly ultranationalistic when compared to other variants of Ergatism.

National Ergatism was a former variant of Ergatism that shared ideals of Authoritarian Capitalism and Irredentism.

Euro-Ergatism was a variant of Ergatism that promoted ultranationalism, revanchism and uniquely Hibernophillia.

Collinite Ergatism was a cousin of Euro-Ergatism, it emphasized a more left-wing approach to Ergatism based on Galwegian Socialism and Irish Republicanism.
