The Order of Merit is the fourth-highest chivalric order in the Kingdom of Ikonia. It is formally apart of the Ikonian honours system. The Order of Merit is conferred upon Ikonians or distinguished citizens of other countries who have achieved eminent international distinction in the field of science, the arts, literature or any other endeavour. The award can not be given posthumously.
Members and Honorary Members of the order are entitled to wear the insignia of the order as a decoration and to be styled "The Honourable". In addition, they can append the post-nominal letters OM to their names, or OM (Hon.) in the case of Honorary Members, which are foreign. The order's motto is "Dedicated to you, all of you".
The Order of Merit was never created until the Duke of Brighton wrote the Ikonian Honors System Book of Honors and Wear, and had it published in accordance with His Majesty's Heraldic Authority. The medal's orignal design was a bronze medallion, but has since switched to a red and gold medal.
Current classes
Excluding the sovereign of orders, the two classes of appointment to the Order are, in descending order of precedence:
- Member of the Order of Merit (OM)
- Honorary Member of the Order of Merit (OM (Hon.))
