- In this traditional Sabian name, Veronavái is the matronymic and Koħen is the family name.
Petyr Cohen (Sabian: betir veronavái koħen) is a Sabioveronese Democratic politician. He currently serves as the Governor of Verona, one of the two original regions of Sabia and Verona, having been elected in 2015.
Previously he had served as leader of the Left Alliance from 2014 to 2016; he was succeded by Apollo Cerwyn. During his tenure as leader of the major left-wing party, it became a mostly regional force as the Valtirian National Party alliance (between the Left Alliance and Bakinn) was expanded to include the National Artists' Guild, with the signing of the Treaty of Kotavari. After the treaty failed to contain the Left from competing for seats in the national parliament, Cohen resigned as party leader.
Cohen is a career politician in Sabia and Verona. He was a member of the Socialist Party and served as a legislator in the first and second Courts of Sabia and Verona. He served as Minister for Regional Identity (culture) under Ann Stefanović in the 4th government. Subsequently, he served as Lieutenant Secretary (mayor) of Elinore, one of the prefectures of Sabia, from 2014 to 2015. When the Haronos Plan was executed, Cohen remained in the Northern Territories of the Valtir and was elected Governor of Verona.
Early life
Cohen is native to the area around the Valtir. In the early 2000s, he moved to the Valtir and there, he met the precursors of the Sabioveronese nationhood movement, Napoléon Bleuberrie and Pomme-Gabrielle Gauvier, as well as the powerful Karjasari family. Cohen studied law at the University of Elinore, when it was still known as the Free University of Sabia and Verona. Cohen is Jewish.
He became a follower of Bleuberrie, and in 2012 joined his Sabia and Verona People's Movement. After Sabia and Verona's establishment in 2012, Pashor joined the Socialist Party founded by Bleuberrie and sat as one of the 20 members of the first Courts of Sabia and Verona, representing the region of Verona.
Career
Legislator and culture minister
Pashor's political career in Sabia and Verona began as one of the original members of the 1st Legislative Courts, which sat for the first time on 18 October 2012. He sat as a member of the Socialist Party representing the region of Verona, which sent at-large members as it had not yet been divided into municipalities. Pashor was re-elected in the 2012 election, this time representing the municipality of Tegula. He shares this early trajectory with Dovedán Pashor.
Cohen left the Socialist Party after the 2013 coup d'état attempt, joining instead the newly formed Roots Party (AEM). In the September 2014 election, he stood for a seat in the Courts in Tegula, but failed to get enough votes. He was nonetheless selected by Ann Stefanović to be Minister for Regional Identity (culture minister) in her cabinet, which she formed after her Progressive Coalition won a supermajority in the Courts.
As Minister for Regional Identity, Cohen was tasked with suggesting much of Sabia and Verona's new national symbols after the nation gained devolution from Juclandia on 23 February 2014. The new national symbols had to reflect Sabia and Verona's distinct identity as well as the new federalist sentiment espoused by the Federal Union of Juclandian Lands, which Sabia and Verona belonged to, and they had to be approved by the government, the Courts, the Governor and the new Queen. Ultimately, the new coat of arms was that of the House of Annenak, the newly enthroned royal house, while Pa, Sabishaveronikou was chosen as the new national anthem of Sabia and Verona.
When the Roots Party split into the Left Alliance and the Convergence Party, Cohen sided with the Left Alliance.
Mayorship and governorship
Cohen was elected as Lieutenant Secretary (mayor) of Elinore in 2014, taking office on 10 August 2014. Cohen was not a resident of the district at the time of his election, so his candidacy was controversial. He stood as a candidate for the Left Alliance, making him one of the many lieutenant secretaries from the Left who took office on that election. His time in office is mostly remembered for the cutting-down of ax-Daelosak, a large Bahuinia tree in Elinore that had been a landmark of the city for years. He left office on 4 August 2015, a year into his administration, and was succeeded by Francisca Goyo-Ramírez.
After the end of his term as Lieutenant Secretary, Cohen returned to Tegula. Cohen was elected governor of Verona when the Constitution of 2015, which mandated the creation of the office of governor for all of Sabia and Verona's regions, was adopted. He succeded the Marquis of Ankor, who had assumed the governorship in interim fashion after Apollo Cerwyn's departure in Haronos I.
In September 2015, when Left Alliance leader Narcissus Clyne resigned from his position and left the party to join the National Artists' Guild, Cohen took over as interim leader of the party. During his leadership of the Left, the Valtirian National Party (an alliance between the Left and Convergence) was reformed to include the Artists' Guild in the Treaty of Kotavari. The Treaty, however, failed to prevail, and when party members decided to run against the Artists' Guild in the central regions in 2016, Cohen finally gave up his interim leadership to Apollo Cerwyn.
