The culture of the Empire of Ela'r'oech is primarily influenced by American culture, with its territories are surrounded by the United States. Most citizens of the Empire also hold citizenship in the U.S. Other factors include Ela'r'oech's status as a micronation, and debated status as a micronational superpower, which has given Elarian culture a number of qualities, though one specific quality which is shared by most Elarians is Elarian exceptionalism.
Elarian culture is particularly characterized by its media, its number of independently-run businesses, and its art. Significant examples of Elarian cultural pieces are Fight of Gods, Momentum, Ela'r'oech News Source, Ela'r'oech Football League, and Elarian.
Influences
Influences on Elarian culture include the Kingdom of Pontunia, the Tsardom of Begon, and (to a lesser extent) the Republic of Bushistan. Macronational influences include the United States of America, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and Napoleonic France. Specifically, the state of Louisiana is also a massive influence on the culture of the Empire.
Arts
Media
While Ela'r'oech has no official state channel, it does have an official state radio station hosted on Zeno.fm. Well-known broadcasters include Dragon Studio and Ela'r'oech News Source. Notable production companies for Elarian media include Dragon Studio, Firefly, and ACBIC Films. Well-known films in Ela'r'oech include The End, Fight of Gods: The Superest Super God!, and The Chicken and the Dog. Well-known shows include Fight of Gods and Micronational Geographic.
Music in Ela'r'oech have been dominated by indie-pop and specifically Momentum, the indie-pop duo made by Charles Madgett and Andrew Perdomo. Other music in Ela'r'oech is mostly EDM and Classical.
Literature
Notable pieces of Elarian literature are also mostly Ranaist, including the Eadorno and Liber Ranarum. Other notable pieces include Super, a mini-comic series which is part of the story of Fight of Gods, and The Alarian Victory and its sequel. Charles The Chad by Miles Elson is likely the oldest surviving piece of Elarian literature, excluding previous iterations of the constitution.
News
Ela'r'oech News Source is the main Ela'r'oech news site, however numerous other sites have apparently worked with Ela'r'oech. News sources are free to speak to Elarians according to Charles and some already have as of May 2021, with Proper Providence News calling Ela'r'oech "something that looked good, but wasn't too classy." It's also come out that the Bull Moose Advance has spoken to Charles and more news sites may be giving coverage to the nation.
Paintings
Ramirez Works is the most notable business which produces paintings for Ela'r'oech. Notably, "The Final Soldier" by Anthony Ramirez represents the final Elarian soldier fighting for his homeland in the midst of war. It is believed that the painting was made as a reaction to the Elarian-Alarian Conflict.
Sports
Association football is the most played sport in the nation, with American-type association football serving as the main inspiration and influence behind the founding of the only sports league that the Empire has seen to date, that being the Ela'r'oech Football League. The League has many fans, residential and non-residential. Many tuned in to listen to the first game in November 2021, and since then the league has grown considerably and dramatically.
Government
Royalism
Elarians are notable for their amount of royalism in support of Emperor Charles. Royalists in Ela'r'oech have gone so far as to establish their own ideology dubbed Carolusianism to show direct support for their monarch. Carolusianism grew massively during the Ela'r'oech Monarchy Power Disputes as well as anti-Cycoldian sentiments, due to the opposition from Christina, leader of the Parliamentarians and Cycoldia. Notable Carolusians include Anthony Ramirez and Ian Clark.
National Symbols
Representative symbols of the Empire include the;
- Flag
- Coat of Arms
- Emperor
- Religion
- Black Labradors
- Magnolias
- Oak trees
- Fish bowls
- Fishes
- Frogs
- Golden leaves
Accepted caricatures of the Empire include;
- Carolus; A fictitious, dramatized depiction of HIM Charles I. He is a male teen.
- Elaro; A depiction of a no-nonsense Elarian patriot. He is a male adult.
- Elaria; A depiction of a caring and welcoming motherly figure. She is a female adult.
There are cultural reasons behind all of the chosen symbols, excluding the obvious. The black labradors, for example, were chosen as a way to remember the posthumously awarded Stellar, a black labrador which was an unofficial member of the Royal family as a pet until her death in 2021. Fishes and fish bowls are another example chosen to remember a posthumous pet. Unlike the aforementioned, frogs were selected due to their connection to Ranaism.
