The Autonomous Empire of Maccrage was an autonomous region of the Tsarist Empire of Gishabrun. It was absorbed into Gishabrun as part of the terms of the Bench War Treaty (2010).

Etymology

The name "Maccrage" is a corruption of "Macragge", a planet in the Warhammer 40K fictional universe.

History

The Autonomous Empire of Maccrage first began on the 20th July, 2010, as the Unnamed Empire, which was founded to counter the Gishabruni claim of The Bench in what became Ancient Willow Krai. This resulted in the conflict known as the Bench War, in which the Unnamed Empire claimed 5/6ths of The Bench. Sometime later, Emperor Cyril I of the Unnamed Empire also captured his own house from Canada, later to be known as the High Duchy of Ultramaar. Eight days later, Gishabrun re-captured the foreign parts of The Bench and, as a result, both Cyril I and HIM Tsar Kuri I claimed the title 'Emperor of the Unnamed Empire'.

On the 17th of September, 2010, the Bench War was brought to an end by the signing of the Bench War Treaty on Canadian soil. This treaty renamed the Unnamed Empire 'Maccrage' and made it an autonomous region of Gishabrun. On the 4th of November, 2010, Maccrage expanded to include the State of Tallasar, and on the 5th of November, the Territory of Nurthis was claimed as the third lesser district.

In late 2010 early 2011, the Gishabruni Elite Duma gathered several times in Ultramaar to discuss and draft regulations for the conduct of the Gishabrun Armed Forces in case of a conflict. This law, which was signed in Ultramaar on 7 February 2011, became known as the Ultramaar Convention, and was the second most important piece of Gishabruni legislation, after the constitution.

On the 25th of February, a third state, by the name of Area 51, was added to Maccrage, raising the population from 2 to 3. On February 19, 2012, Nurthis was returned to Canadian sovereignty due to inactivity of its citizen. On February 22, 2012, the new residence of Emperor Cyril I was claimed as the State of New Ultramaar and Tallasar and Ultramaar were given up due to their distance from New Ultramaar.

Maccrage was dissolved when Gishabrun was absorbed into Renasia on 22 July 2012, but New Ultramaar was retained as a land claim of Gishabrun SAR, where it became known as New Ultramaar Oblast.

Government

The Autonomous Empire of Maccrage was governed as a constitutional monarchy, with the power of the Emperor being limited by the legislature, known as the Maccragian High Council. The High Council included the Emperor of Maccrage and the Tsar of Gishabrun as the Gishabruni Representative, but not much else is known about its composition or form of government. It is also unclear if Maccrage, formally a constitutional monarchy, actually had a written constitution.

Lesser districts

Maccrage consisted of two types of lesser districts: states (populated regions) and territories (uninhabited regions). The capital state of Maccrage, at first Ultramaar and subsequently New Ultramaar, were known as High Duchies due to their status.

The Maccragian culture was heavily based on references to the Warhammer 40K fictional universe, something that is most evident with its toponymy. It was also a very militaristic society, with its citizens producing some of Gishabrun's most active soldiers and Maroon Guard members.
