The A1 News Service is an independent and privately-owned online news outlet, providing micronational news from both the MicroWiki and Micras sectors. It was founded on 28th June 2008 in order to provide an internal news outlet that would not otherwise have existed in the MGPRA1. It continued in its role as the only provider of news in A1 until the Federated Republics of A1 fell into inactivity and informally collapsed around mid-2012. It was re-established in its present form on the 27th August 2012 and incorporated into the newly-established FRA1 Media Group on the 15th September 2012.

History

From its foundation until 8th June 2009, just short of its 1st birthday, the A1NS had been published on a freewebs.com website. On the 8th June, it moved to its present location at http://fra1.net/news as part of the A1 Government's 'I.T. Upgrade Project (2009)'.

It covered all A1 elections, including election campaigns and results, as well as the March 2010 A1 Political Crisis, publishing a Special Report into the incident towards its beginnings.

In October 2010, the editor of over two years, Diego al-Hummingbird, resigned having given due notice to Chairman Daniel Mizzi, as a result of extra-micronational commitments. As a result, Gordon Freeman temporarily took over as editor until a new journalist could be found.

In January 2012, the Service was awarded the Iain Jacobson Award for Journalism at the 2011 Fnords[1].

On 27th August 2012, Gordon Freeman announced the re-establishment of the A1 News Service as an independent and intermicronational news outlet, with no ties to A1 or any micronation[2].
