The 2018 presidential election of Rino Island was held in September 8 of 2018. On that day, President Anastasio López, together with a council of representatives from various institutions, chose the presidential candidate. They agreed to designate the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marco Antonio Rino. This decision was endorsed by the Council of State, an advisory body that replaced the Senate during President Anastasio López's term.[1][2]
Rino accepted the nomination during the same meeting. He assumed the presidency on September 11, 2018, maintaining the functioning of the Council of State until the restoration of the Grand Senate in 2019.
