The Woodlandic Shirley (sign: $; code: WAS; also abbreviated WAS$ and referred to as the shirley, Woodlandic Shirley, Woodlandian Shirley, Woodlander Shirley or Woodlandic dollar) is the official currency of the Principality of Woodlandia. The Woodlandic Shirley (dollar) is pegged at a one-to-one ratio with the Canadian dollar.

Within the Principality of Woodlandia, the shirley is almost always abbreviated with the dollar sign ($), with WAS$ sometimes used to distinguish it from other dollar-denominated currencies. The Shirley is subdivided into 100 cents. In practice, the shirley is divided into 100 smaller cent (¢) units, but is occasionally divided into 1000 mills (₥) for accounting. The circulating paper money consists of Royal Woodlandic Banknotes that are denominated in Woodlandic shirleys (dollars).

Etymology

The name for the Woodlandia Shirley was chosen in honor of Her Majesty Dowager Queen Shirley, grandmother to Prince Shawn of the Principality of Woodlandia. The word Shirley originates from the English place-name Shirley, which itself, derived from the Old English words scire (shire), scīr (bright, clear,) and lēah (wood, clearing, meadow, enclosure). The name Shirley makes reference to the open space where the moot (an early English assembly of freeman which met to administer justice and discuss community issues) was held.
