The Rino Island Coup in 2017 was a popular uprising that ended the dictatorship of Francisco Gomez. It had many reasons; But the threat and attempt to provoke a war against the Kingdom of Numancia, a personal initiative of the dictator Francisco Gomez, was especially important.

In Rino Island this day its a national holiday, know as the "day of national liberation."

Background: the April crisis

The anti-Europeanism of the dictatorship reached surprising edges. An innocent statement by the King of Numancia, regarding the Microvision festival of that year, was the trigger for the greatest diplomatic crisis of Hispanic micronationalism, the so-called “April crisis”.

Jorge de Antillón pointed out, in the official media of the Micronational Radio Broadcasting Union, the following:

“However, only the Kingdom of Numancia, founder of the festival, has remained in the 3 editions of the musical contest that dismisses Timeria in this edition, given its abandonment of micronationalism, becoming one more association of the macro-state of Spain, and Rino Island , organizer of the past festival that has perished in inactivity "

The phrase "perished in inactivity" was taken seriously by the Gómez government, which, given its null internal activity, saw its continuity threatened. Therefore, perhaps he saw in this childishness a tremendously ridiculous casus belli. Something that at most means taking someone's greeting, meant the breakdown of diplomatic relations.

Then, Francisco Gomez, in case he gave the Numantine government 72 hours to retract and apologize, threatening to take effective action. Numancia questioned their threats, and even ridiculed them: "If perhaps they had given any sign of life, we would not call them inactive "

In response to Numancia, general mobilization was ordered, and allies and citizens were contacted to start a war, on May 1, 2017.

New micronations joined the conflict, some in pursuit of Numancia and others on the side of Rino Island; The war was imminent, and for this reason Numancia offered an honorable exit for all, especially considering that they were brother peoples:

I want to invite the Government of Rino Island to retract your words without any consequence. We are sister micronations, I don't want to get angry with anyone and neither do the Numantine people. If we even gave you a village, Pedro, which since 2016 has been a country in the Netherlands.

Citizens, let us show that we do not want war. Let's show that we can all be brothers. That Numancia will always be here for whatever you need. But we will always be the standard bearer for the truth.

This statement would be enough to call for the citizens to give the Coup of Freedom on May 2, 2017.

The Coup of Freedom

May 2 is a date that we must remember, because in it our freedom was recovered, we returned to the path of institutionality, and an absurd war with a sister nation was avoided.

On May 2, 2017, a joint action of the Armed Forces and the Rinoislandic National Unity Party put an end to the dictatorship of Francisco Gómez, and restored the country's Constitution. The military leadership of the movement was in charge of the then Brigadier General Marco Antonio Rino, who had been deposed by the dictatorship. The civil direction corresponded to Don Anastasio López.

The uprising and the fall of the dictatorship were immediately publicly reported. The national mobilization was suspended, and any declaration of war was annulled, as illegitimate. A Government Board was formed, a civic-military one, whose first act was the restoration of the full validity of the 2014 Constitution, and the Presidency of Anastasio López. The existing parties were outlawed, for protecting the dictatorship, and the courts were ordered to arrest their leaders for being seditious.

However, the coup only took internal control of the State, but individual accounts continued to be controlled by the dictatorship and its henchmen, an issue that caused several problems later.

Consequences

The Governing Board chaired by Don Anastasio López established a consultative Council of State to exercise legislative functions. The decision was based on that opportunity given that the last parliamentary election did not have guarantees of impartiality, and it was highly probable that all the votes of the Broad Front were the result of electoral fraud.

This legislative Council of State, provisionally fulfilled the same functions as the Senate but in an advisory capacity, and was composed of the following:

a.- Two representatives of the Armed Forces

b.- Two representatives of the National Trade Union Center

c.- A representative of the ministers

d.- A representative of the Courts of Justice

e.- A former diplomat

f.- A former senator

g.- A former President of the Republic (Mr. Benedetto Samperi held the position).

This was only provisional, and the national order was maintained with relative stability. It was a difficult task, but it was possible. The various organizations of the nation were called upon to order the accounts and to reactivate all the abandoned institutions of the country. It was decided that indirect presidential elections would be held in September 2018, by civil associations and the state council as voters.

A serious problem was representation abroad, since the coup did not achieve external acceptance or recognition, beyond a few allies and Numancia. The diplomacy of the dictatorship cannonade contacts abroad, both through simple actions such as selling the national website, as well as through acts of direct national harm, such as forcing our departure from the United Micronations Organization (OMU). Notwithstanding, Rino Island regained all of its previous positions, successfully re-entering OMU in 2019.

The Governing Board would finally give way to the government of Marco Antonio Rino, who deepened the revolution of national development.
