A major is the junior senior commissioned officer of the Baustralian Army. It outranks a captain, and in other services, a lieutenant, and a flight lieutenant. It is equivalent to a Lieutenant commander and a squadron leader.
Insignia
Insignia of a major on the headdress is a peak with a row of gold oak leaf. The cap badge is that of the unit which they belong. The rank insignia is a small crown.
