Jerold Jr. Lopez Garte (born April 20, 2007), commonly known as Ar and later known by his regnal name Jerold I, is a micronationalist. He serves as the founder and current monarch of the Kingdom of Arlandica and the Kingdom of Courline.

Personal life

An another portrait of Jerold I.

Jerold I was born on April 20, 2007, in Davao City, Philippines. He is the first child of his parents, Analie Lopez and Jerold Barlizo. Jerold I's interest in flags became apparent early on, sparking a passion for history, government, and politics.

He attended Cornelio C. Reta Sr. Elementary School for his grade school years, Cabantian National High School for his high school education, and is currently enrolled in Cabantian Stand Alone Senior High School in Davao City.

Religion

Jerold I was raised as a Catholic and developed strong faith. He regularly attended church, particularly on Sundays, with his family.

Micronational career

Arlandica

At the age of 13, Jerold I began on his micronational journey, founding Arlandica on April 20, 2020, which coincided with his birthday, serving as a unique birthday gift to himself. Arlandica emerged as both a personal project and a politically light secessionist entity. He formally entered the micronational community on October 10, 2020.

From its inception until December 26, 2020, he held the position of supreme leader within the Federal Democratic Republic of Arland (FDRA) and was a member of the United Arland Communist Party. However, he eventually left the party in order to dissolve it and eliminate all leftist ideologies within the country, a decision that triggered a failed coup attempt. On December 26, 2020, Jerold I was crowned as the monarch of Arlandica, marking the establishment of the Arlandican monarchy.

Subsequently, on May 23, 2022, he enacted the present constitution of Arlandica. Jerold I's influence grew to make him a central figure in Arlandican history, leading to his designation as the National Hero of Arlandica.

On April 6, 2024, he witnessed the establishment of the National People's Party, the current sole ruling party in Arlandica, and on that day, he became a member.

Courline

On December 14, 2020, Jerold I claimed Mac. Robertson Land as his private property. He documented his claim, declaring it an autonomous part of the Kingdom of Arlandica, making it the first Filipino micronation to lay claims on the continent.

On April 30, 2024, he wrote a basic law for the Kingdom of Courline, declaring it a separate micronation under a personal union with Arlandica, with Jerold I coronated as its monarch.

Saburan

Jerold I authored the Constitution of the Kingdom of Saburan, a micronation located in Guimaras, which was ratified on June 27, 2024, by King Gregory I (Ramon Ychon). The king of Saburan appointed him as the prime minister of the country.

On July 6, King Ramon Ychon signed a royal decree granting the monarch of Arlandica the title of Lakan of Rattansakonak. Lakan is equivalent to a prince, and Rattansakonak is the capital of Saburan. The ceremonial title symbolizes the relationship between the monarchies of the two nations.

On November 1, he resigned as prime minister but retained his special citizenship and ceremonial title. The constitution he authored was abolished.[1]

Santo Niño Cooperation Union

Originally established as the United Territories of Overseas Arlandica (UTOA), Jerold I became its founder on July 13, 2021. Jerold I authored the Treaty of Santo Niño on April 15, 2024. Later, on May 10, 2024, the governments of Arlandica, Courline, and Zakinesia ratified the treaty, re-establishing the organization as the Santo Niño Cooperation Union (SNCU).

On June 3, 2024, Jerold I was elected as the inaugural Secretary-General of the organization.

On October 26, he resigned. The Central Committee held a snap election, resulting in Lakan Daniel of Vethony becoming the new Secretary-General.

Military career

Although the Civil Guards of Arlandica (CGA) is considered a law enforcement agency rather than a military force, Jerold I serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Civil Guard. In his capacity as the monarch, he holds the rank of Grand Marshal and Admiral of the Fleet.

Since the foundation of the Civil Guard, Jerold I has been involved in every operation, working closely with his top commanders in law enforcement. He has been regarded by Arlandican media as the "Napoleon of the Philippine Micronational Community."

Jerold I implemented his own military-inspired strategies for low-intensity micronational conflicts, both defensive and offensive. The names and concepts of these strategies have been declared classified by the Royal Arlandican Intelligence Directorate (RAID), and as of August 2024, they are not considered active strategies. These strategies were applied by the Civil Guard during the Internal Conflict, the Annexation of Zakinesia, the War in Jalaur River, particularly in the Battle of Corvalon and the Arlandican-Hesminian counteroffensive. All of these conflicts ended successfully.

Most of his military career is micronational, as he has no macronational experience.

Writing career

Jerold I began writing opinion articles for the school newspaper organization, Graphema, during his 10th grade. He submitted numerous write-ups, leading his teachers to recognize him as a campus journalist. In his 11th grade, he was elected as an officer in the English Guild, an extracurricular club, for the school year 2023-2024. He became the Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper, The Cliff.

In micronationalism, he also serves as the Editor-in-Chief of The Hopeful Morning newspaper. Notably, the constitution of Arlandica stands as the longest write-up he has undertaken.

In October 2024, he wrote a short story known as the Tyranny to Triumph, originally dedicated to the Arland Crisis.

Political views

Jerold I describes himself as a right-wing conservative and a supporter of monarchism. He opposes the spread of leftist ideologies, such as communism. He promotes Arlandican nationalism, the country's national ideology. Currently, Jerold I is not affiliated with any micronational or macronational political parties.

Since 2021, Jerold I has advocated for the reform of the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines, considering himself a reformist. He believes the current constitution is not effective, citing economic restrictions hindering the Philippines' potential for growth.

On November 7, 2023, according to His Majesty's Office, he described himself as a meat eater and criticized the rise of veganism. Jerold I has faced accusations of being anti-feminist and anti-LGBTQ, which he denies, stating, "I don't tolerate any discriminations against women and the LGBTQ community, and we should respect the enumerated rights of the people."
