The Arland Crisis (Cebuano: Krisis sa Arlandika), also known as Rendonese-Arlandican Crisis or the Great Liberation, was a conflict between Arlandica and Free Rendonese State. The conflict erupted when Jerold I suspended the effectiveness of the Arlandic Agreement, a treaty that allowed Renderfeit and its allies to intervene in the country's internal affairs. He declared himself the legitimate monarch of Arlandica and refused to recognize Suleiman as the monarch and head of state. Arlandica became a battleground as Jerold I sought to restore its independence by positioning himself as the legitimate monarch. Between March 19 and 22, 2021, Arlandica found itself with two technically concurrent heads of state until Renderfeit officially acknowledged Jerold I as the head of state.
Despite the mounting pressure, Jerold I remained resolute in his decision to declare the restoration of Arlandica's independence. He argued that his country had the right to self-determination and that it was time for Arlandica to chart its own course. It was pursued primarily through political actions, propaganda and espionage by both parts.
Background
Arlandic Agreement
The Arlandic Agreement, signed on March 6, 2021, aimed to restructure the government of Arlandica under the administration of Suleiman, who also held the position of president in the Free Rendonese State. As part of the agreement, Arlandica ceded some of its territories, including EstaGrik (now known as Kratosia), which became an administrative region of Renderfeit before being transferred to Balzi. This agreement led to increased dependence on micronations like Renderfeit, altering Arlandica's status.
Previously under the jurisdiction of the Coppacian Realm, an administrative division of Renderfeit, Arlandica underwent a transformation into a semi-independent puppet state, as perceived by certain micronationalists. The agreement also designated Jerold I as the prime minister of Arlandica.
Reaction
Several foreign micronationalists expressed their interest in making Arlandica their colony. However, the citizens of Arlandica and its supporters at that time were unhappy about this agreement. They had not been consulted, and Suleiman's rule had made Arlandica more dependent on Renderfeit. Consequently, they encouraged Jerold I to declare himself as the legitimate monarch and head of state, which he proceeded to do. Jerold I rejected the title of "prime minister" and instead chose to be addressed as a "monarch."
Crisis
Jerold I suspended the effectiveness of the Arlandic Agreement and Arlandica severed its communication ties with Renderfeit. Suleiman issued an ultimatum that demanded Jerold I's surrender to Renderfeit; otherwise, Renderfeit would designate Jerold I as a criminal and demand an apology to the Philippine micronational community. In response, Jerold I promptly apologized while remaining steadfast in his decision. In a swift move, paper flags of Renderfeit within Arlandican government offices were replaced with the new design of the Arlandican flag, the Great White banner.
Jerold I's forces, now referred to as the Civil Guards, assumed control and patrolled Arlandican territories, met with no resistance due to the absence of pro-Rendonese factions. Arlandicans hailed these patrols as the "Liberation of Arlandica from the regime of Suleiman."
Amidst the crisis, Curimae rallied in support of Arlandica, while Okasakawa and other AMPI members aligned with the Rendonese side. President of Balzi and Accande Terrie Ornindo (ATO)'s Secretary-General, Carl Miguel Victa, reportedly derided Arlandica by dubbing it a "useless member-state" in an online chatroom, according to Vilasian sources. Accande Terrie Ornindo, Renderfeit's leaders, and the Association of Micronations in the Philippine Islands (AMPI) also denounced Arlandica's actions. Blazetopia aligned itself with Renderfeit initially, although both ATO and Balzi have since refuted those claims. Vilasia did not expressed its support for Arlandica.
Aftermath
On March 22, 2021, Renderfeit officially recognized Jerold I as the legitimate monarch of Arlandica, leading to the country's victory and restoration of its self-rule. Jerold I declared the continuation of the monarchy as the form of government for Arlandica. This governmental structure had been in use before the Arlandic Agreement, albeit with some modifications.
Current situation
Arlandica's Ministry of Information does not recognize Suleiman as the reigning monarch from March 6, 2021, to March 19, 2021. As a result, this information will not be included in historical articles and books. During that period, Jerold I asserted that he remained the rightful monarch of Arlandica.
Victory Day is commemorated in Arlandica annually on March 22, honoring not only the resolution of the Arland Crisis but also acknowledging all conflicts that have involved Arlandica.
Arlandica established relations with Renderfeit in April 2022.
In literary culture
Jerold I wrote a short story titled Tyranny to Triumph, a work of fiction that explores themes of betrayal, redemption, class struggle, equality, power, and corruption. The story is dedicated to the Arland Crisis, as noted in its table of contents. The government encourages all Arlandicans to read it.
