Santo Niño City (Cebuano: Dakbayan sa Santo Niño), formerly as Arland City and Nueva Andana,[a] is the capital of the Kingdom of Arlandica. It is located in Mainland Arlandica and serves as the country's official capital since the foundation.
History
The territory of what is now Santo Niño City holds a significant place in the history of the Kingdom of Arlandica. It was the first original territory of the kingdom, established as Arland City, and served as the national capital. Its name was changed in May 2022. The territory has been the center of numerous political events that have shaped the course of Arlandican history, including a coup d'état attempt and the Arland Crisis.
Etymology
This territory is named after the Patron saint of the Kingdom, Santo Niño de Cebú. Santo Niño de Cebú is a highly revered figure in the Catholic faith, and his story goes back hundreds of years. According to legend, the Santo Niño was a statue of the infant Jesus that was given as a gift by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan to the Queen of Cebu in the Philippines in the 16th century. The statue was said to have miraculous powers, and it quickly became a symbol of devotion and faith for the people of Cebu. Over time, the statue was brought to other parts of the world, including the Kingdom of Arlandica, where it became the Patron saint of the Kingdom.
Geography
Santo Niño City comprises the eastern part of Mainland Arlandica, while the western part is known as Melascoville City. It is a landlocked and mountainous territory, characterized by lush rainforests covering its expansive land. The land within the territory is under the ownership of the Arlandican royal family.
Demographics
The primary inhabitants of the territory are the royal family.
Economy
The economy of Santo Niño City is dependent on imports from Davao City. However, the territory also possesses a small agricultural land area that has fruits, vegetables, and spices.
Infrastructure
The territory is entirely a planned settlement. The residence of the Royal Family,[b] including His Majesty's Office, and the Government Center building, are located within the territory.
The Government Center building houses the Cabinet of Arlandica, the Supreme Court, the Central Command (Main headquarters of the Civil Guard), Arlandican Air Force (ARAF), and the Santo Niño Cooperation Union (SNCU). It has been under construction for 3 years since December 28, 2020, and is currently 20% to 40% complete, entirely funded by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Transportation
The main cemented road in the territory is the Santo Niño Road, which is accessible only by motorcycles and bicycles. However, it is important to note that there are no roads within the Arland Rainforest.
Tourism
The territory is not open to the public; however, visitors with permission from the monarch can access several sites within Santo Niño City, including the Central Square, Arland Rainforest, and the Government Center building.
