The 2020 Arlandican Coup d'etat attempt occurred on December 26, 2020, before the creation of the monarchy and the coronation of Jerold I as the monarch. Shots, using toy guns, were heard around the central square in the afternoon of that day as the rebels began to seize the Royal Residence, which caught the attention of the Defense force, now known as the Civil Guards of Arlandica (CGA). Opposition forces temporarily occupied the central square. After a few hours, the rebellion group announced their surrender, ceasing all forms of attack on Arlandica. Jerold was successfully crowned as the monarch, and the Arlandican monarchy was created.
The attempt, which was led by a group of people of the opposition force led by Jeanne, aimed to overthrow the government of Jerold I and continue the far-left republic. It marks the beginning of the country's Internal conflict that lasted for almost 2 years. The coup attempt caused widespread panic and instability throughout the country, with many fearing the return of authoritarian rule. However, with the support of the people and loyal civil guards, the government was able to quell the coup.
Background
On October 2020, the political landscape of Arlandica underwent a drastic transformation. The former Supreme leader, Jerold, who is now known as the King of Arlandica, declared Martial law that was implemented nationwide. The move was made to remove all leftist influence and figures within the country, based on the advise of his friends. Under the new system, all government powers are vested in King Jerold I. However, this did not sit well with everyone. Jeanne, King Jerold's sister and the Chairwoman of the United Arland Communist Party, was among those who were unhappy with the new order. She felt that the country was moving towards an autocracy and wanted to change the flag and coat of arms. To pursue her agenda, Jeanne secretly organized the "Opposition forces," a group of individuals who shared her vision. She took the lead in coordinating their efforts and galvanizing them towards a common goal. However, this move did not go unnoticed. Jeanne saw the move as an opportunity to remove her brother from office. She believed that a monarchy was not the way forward for the country and was determined to continue with the Democratic Republic under the communist party. To achieve this, she planned to use the unrest caused by the Opposition forces to her advantage.
Aftermath
Jeanne's attempt to overthrow her brother, King Jerold I, was a move that had far-reaching consequences for Arlandica. Despite her best efforts, however, she failed in her quest to take over the reins of power. After a bitter struggle, Jeanne and her followers found themselves outnumbered and outgunned by the loyalists. Realizing that their efforts were in vain, they decided to surrender to the authorities. King Jerold issued an amnesty decree to the rebels. The decree was seen as a generous gesture by many, but it was also viewed with suspicion by others who felt that the king was being too lenient. To prevent such a scenario from unfolding, King Jerold moved quickly to consolidate his power. He appointed trusted allies to key positions in government and the civil guards.
Months after the coup attempt, Jeanne became the heir apparent of King Jerold I, and she is now also serving as a civil guard personnel. She promised that such a crisis would never happen again and will help her brother instead.
The Republican Movement, along with its armed wing, the Republican Army of Arlandica, was established, claiming to be the successor of Jeanne's opposition forces, sharing the common goal of overthrowing the monarchy and establishing a republican form of government. Jeanne actively engaged with the Civil Guard in operations to counter rebellion initiated by the Republican Movement in Nueva Bago.
She held the position of governor-representative of Nueva Bago since the province's establishment.
