The Græcian Basketball League (Hellenic: Γραικικὴ Λίγκα Καλαθοσφαιρίσεως Ğrekikī̀ Líga Kalaþosferíseōs, Neoclassical Latin: FŒDVS CANISTRILV̄DĪ GRÆCIÆ, South Ruthenian: Кошьбаллска Ліґа Грѣкійъі Koš'ballska Liga Ħrækijî) is the 1st-tier amateur basketball league in Græcia, formed in 2020. It consists of 16 teams and runs from October to April, with teams playing 26 games each, followed the top-10 teams competing in one-legged elimination matches as play-offs.

History

Although the inaugural season of the tournament was set to start in 2020, due to the global SARS-CoV-2 pandemic that affects every borough of Græcia, it was postponed indefinitely.

2020–2024

The first logo was inspired by the blue-white-red basketball ball, with a twist; the colour distribution symbolises the flag of Græcia.

2024–present

The second logo was inspired by the logo of YUBA League, featuring the shades of the colours of the Græcian flag.

Competition format

The league is the 1st-tier competition; there is no domestic cup. Relegation to the 2nd-tier tournament and promotion from it are not conducted, due to the special status of the teams competing in the Basketball Championship. By the end of the season, on 1 June, the champions, the runners-up, the 3rd and the 4th-placed team play a small league competition with 6 games, in order to decide the contenders for the super cup. Then, the top 2 teams play a one-legged match. The "Græcian Basketball Super Cup" winners are granted a 2-point advantage for the following season.

Starting from the 2024–25 season, the league champions will play against the champions of the Græcian Basketball Championship in a two-leg competition, called the Græcian Basketball Challenge Cup.

Broadcasting rights

Since the athletes and the clubs are amateur, there will be no televised live coverage; the only possibility will be for the Sports Administration to conduct on-line live coverage of the match events.
