The Aegean Voivodeship (Hellenic: Βοεβοδάτον τοῦ Αἰγαίου, romanised: Voevoðáton tũ Ejéu, pronounced: [voevoˈðaton tûː ɛˈʝɛu̯]; Neoclassical Latin: PALĀTĪNĀTVS ÆGÆICVS, pronounced: [päɫ̪äːt̪iːˈnäːt̪ʊs̠ äe̯ˈɡäe̯ɪkʊs̠]) is one of the five voivodeships of Græcia, the top-level administrative divisions of the micronation. It was formed in March 2021 AD. As of 2022 AD, it consists of two boroughs located on two separate islands of the Aegean Sea: Andriopolis, which is located on the island of Andros, Cyclades and Vathy, which is located on the island of Samos, North Aegean.

Name

The Aegean Voivodeship was named after the homonymous sea, where its constituents are located. For the sake of brevity, the voivodeship is referred to as the Aegean (Hellenic: Αἰγαῖον, romanised: Ejéon [ɛˈʝɛ.on]; Neoclassical Latin: ÆGÆVM [äe̯ˈɡäe̯ʊ̃ˑ]).

History

The Aegean Voivodeship was formed on 1 March 2021 AD, following the rapid expansion of Græcia to three macronations, outside of Hellas. At first, it was composed of three boroughs: the original two (Andriopolis and Hagia Aikaterini) plus the newly-formed borough of Vathy. More than a year later, the micronation was expanded once again, albeit internally (macronation-wise) and thus the need for a new voivodeship arose, leaving Aegean with only two constituents.

Subdivisions

The Aegean Voivodeship is subdivided into two boroughs:

Borough Area (km²) Area of influence (km²) Administrative seat District(s)
Andriopolis TBD TBD Castrum Andriopoleos Upper Andriopolis
Lower Andriopolis
Vathy TBD TBD Castrum Vatheos n/a

Prior to June 2022 AD, the borough of Hagia Aikaterini was also considered part of the Aegean Voivodeship; with the introduction of two new boroughs in the vicinity of Hagia Aikaterini, the Senate decided to re-organise the administrative divisions and thus introduce a new voivodeship: Atthicon, which absorbed the former and grouped it with the latter, leaving Andriopolis and Vathy as the two constituents of the division.

Government

Current Voivode: TBD
The voivodeship assembly is composed of 15 counselors, organised as follows:

  • Andriopolis representatives - 10
  • Vathy representatives - 5

Andriopolis has more representatives, because each of the two districts elects 5 of them.

Economy

The Aegean Voivodeship depends mostly on fishing, agriculture and tourism. The borough of Andriopolis produces figs, olives, olive oil, almonds, artichokes, onions, basil, potatoes, tomatoes, while the borough of Vathy used to produce olives and olive oil, but now there is no production at all, since that plot has been sold.

Geography

Both constituents of the Aegean Voivodeship are located on islands, but the land owned on both occasions is close to, but not on the sea. Their areas of influence have of course access to the Aegean sea, which surrounds both islands and the voivodeship by extent.

Religion

The vast majority of the people living in the Aegean Voivodeship are Greek Orthodox Christians (19/22 = 86,36%), while the rest are atheists. The patron saint of the voivodeship is Saint Charalampos, whose feast is celebrated on 10 February.

Language

The official languages of the Aegean Voivodeship are Hellenic and Neoclassical Latin, both of which are used for official documents, as well as everyday things. There is a minority of people who are attempting to revive Arvanitika in Andriopolis, which was noticed by the High Burghermistress and placed under a special programme of conservation. Therefore, Arvanitika is a recognised minority language within the voivodeship. Although not recognised, there are two spoken immigrant languages, Albanian (in both boroughs) and Arabic (in Vathy).
