The Zeprano-Elarian War, occasionally referred to as the Zeprano-Elarian Client State War, was a micronational-conflict between the Federative Republic of Zeprana and its allies against the Empire of Ela'r'oech and its allies. The war occurred on 15 January 2023, and came to a brief stop on 16 January 2023 before reigniting.

History

Prelude and beginning of the conflict (14–19 January 2023)

In the evening hours of 14 January 2023, in a regular government session held in the Zepranan Discord server, Charles Madgett of Ela'r'oech, a long-time government member of Zeprana and one of its founding fathers spoke out against Almendrian and "degenerate" influence plaguing Zeprana, and suggested that Zeprana become a member of the Greater Elarian Commonwealth.

Disgusted by these comments, Tizian Aruna and Terry McKeen III denounced the suggestion, though Madgett insisted on the idea. Following the meeting, members of Autonomous Republics of the United Socialist Republics began planning a retaliation against Madgett and his nation, wanting to establish an Elarian socialist republic after the hypothetical overthrow of Madgett as Emperor of Ela'r'oech. McKeen rapidly radicalized against Carolusianism as a result, denouncing Elarian influence and believing that they were an imperialist power that was restraining Zeprana from greatness, stating that Elarians must be "removed".

On 15 January 2023, Charles Madgett had received word regarding the Almendrian and Zepranan plans, and declared war on all members of the United Socialist Republics and Zeprana, activating the "Cobra Nest Response" retaliatory measures from Zeprana. Charles Madgett claimed that all who supported Zeprana in their efforts would be "punished" and that Zeprana had to be "put down", outraging Zepranan nationalist groups such as the 19 Horsemen.^{[citation needed]}

Hours before war was declared, the Kingdom of Fontasia, long time Zepranan rival and enemy issued support for Zeprana, justifying it with "Fontasia would prefer a free and independent Zepranan state rather than an Elarian puppet" signifying Fontasia's already known anti-Elarian sentiment and anti-imperialism in the New England Sector. After war was declared, unconfirmed reports emerged that Ela'r'oech declared war on Fontasia, though Fontasia had already declared neutrality. Zeprana also declared war on the Kingdom of Pontunia, a micronation also in the Bayou Sector that has greatly been influenced by Ela'r'oech.

The Fontasian government contacted the Elarian government, and confirmed at approximately 10:45 AM EST on 15 January that Ela'r'oech did not declare war on Fontasia, prompting Fontasia to announce it would withdraw any support to any side in the conflict at 12:00 AM EST 16 January.

At 11:20 AM EST, on 15 January 2023. The Zarkyivian government has given support to Ela'r'oech and was also willing to participate in the conflict. Zarkyivian president, Saleh A.H also had contacted Charles Madgett regarding the issue. Later on, Terry McKeen III lied to Saleh about Charles going to "invade Taksovia, Zarkyiv, and Olov" after the following announcement of the war. The Zarkyivian government furthers to condemn the action made by Terry McKeen III, by calling his following actions "disgraceful" and "outrages". Zeprana condemned the involvement of Zarkyiv and Olov, stating that their involvement was "unnecessary" and "unlawful".

At 2:17 PM EST, on January 16, 2023. Qardasha gave diplomatic support to Ela'r'oech. Later, at 7:52 PM EST, after seeing a screenshot exposing a threat given by Mckeen to Qardasha, Qardasha would later declare war on Zeprana and join the war.

Anti-Elarian & anti-Carolusian radicalization (19 January–17 February)

Zeprana and its allies began to radically embrace Antielarianism and Anticarolusian ideals, with the Ministry of Propaganda forming the Elarian Awareness Task Force to combat "misinformation" spread by Charles Madgett, the Elarian Government and Ela'r'oech News Source. Elarians were discriminated against in Zeprana, so as a response Zepranans were discriminated against in Ela'r'oech; though these 'discrimination laws' only targeted Terry McKeen.

Pre-war events

Operation Hound Down

Operation Hound Down was a joint-operation which was conducted by the Elarian Armed Forces, Imperial Army of Allastoria, and the Olovian National Security (O.N.S) to annihilate the Discord account of Terry McKeen III, the codename for the following operation was taken as an reference from Charles Madgett's speech on where as he stated that "It's generally time to put that dog down (referring to Zeprana)"

At 9:51 PM EST, on 4 February 2023. Olovian president Saleh A.H announced the first accomplishment of the operation instantly when the Discord account of Terry McKeen III was banned, with several military-support from Charles Madgett, Oswald Zaroff, Orzan bin Muhammad, and Joseph Horváth.

Overthrow of Terry McKeen III

Zepranan first president, Terry McKeen III was overthrown by Almendrian authorities on 17 February 2023, which has provoked to the nation's almost immediate and complete surrender by Autumn Grey.

Peace negotiations

There has been an effort for peace made by multiple parties in the conflict, including the Monarchy of Ela'r'oech, the Monarchy of Pontunia, the President of Zeprana, and many other micronational leaders. Generally, the only option given to the Elarian-led side of belligerents include to simply allow Zeprana to remain an isolationist nation, as it had left the United Socialist Republics. However, the options given to the Zepranan-led side of belligerents has included Zeprana reestablishing the previous monarchy, joining the Greater Elarian Commonwealth, and more. However, beginning on 16 January 2023, the Elarians' options for peace was changed radically after the official declarations of war; a "Terms of Peace" document created on that day included a Đ16,663 fine (equivalent to $499.89), the division of Zepranan land between Ela'r'oech and Pontunia, and the designation of Terry McKeen as a terrorist in Ela'r'oech and Pontunia.

All of these demands were subsequently ignored and has led to the consideration of Zepranan segregation in Ela'r'oech and possibly other GEC nations.

Zepranan sanctions

At 10:00 AM EST, on 20 January Zeprana instituted the "Jim Crow 2.0 Laws", with the intentions of discrimination against Ethnic elarians. Citizens of Ela'r'oech as of this time are excluded from the laws, with the laws only applying to ethnic and residential Elarians. The laws restricted Elarians from owning property, voting, and other actions. Zeprana also enacted various sanctions which aimed to penalize the Elarian economy, including the suspension of Elarian-based companies from the stock market, raising interest rates to 25% for Elarian loans, and freezing Elarian bank accounts in Zeprana. In response, ENS officially stated that it held no accounts in Zeprana, with ACBIC and Elaro also stating publicly that they held no business ventures in Zeprana.

Treaty of New Rouen

In response to Zepranan "Jim Crow" policies, which Pontunia condemned as a "blatant crime against humanity," Andrew Perdomo drafted a new proposed treaty, the Treaty of New Rouen, which intends to permanently dissolve and partition Zeprana, try its leaders, and end the war.
