The Vice President, officially the Vice President of the Commonwealth of Ballinfoyleburg (VPOTCOB), was the deputy head of state and government of Ballinfoyleburg. The Vice President was the second highest officer in the executive branch of the government of Ballinfoyleburg, only below the President of Ballinfoyleburg. The Vice President was the deputy of the President and when the president of Ballinfoyleburg was unable to perform the powers of the office, the Vice President would become the acting president.

History

When the Republic of Ballinfoyleburg was declared in Ballinfoyle on the 18 December 2021, Ivan Ryan, a friend of Ludwig Collins became the first President of Ballinfoyleburg, and Ludwig Collins became first Vice President of Ballinfoyleburg. Collins was also given the command-in-chief of the Ballinfoyli Wehrmacht.

30 December 2021 Crisis

On 30 December 2021, Doros Patusky became temporary Dictator of Roscamistan with the powers of the Senatus Paramount Ultimatum, and expelled Ludwig Collins over the annexation of Terryland Region, Mervustan Province, by Ballinfoyleburg. The crisis ended with Ballinfoyleburg's right to exist being recognized, albeit only with Ballinfoyle as the territory of Ballinfoyleburg. A permanent diplomatic council was created to prevent any future war between the two sides.

Flight of Mulryan

On 13 January 2022, Ivan Ryan resigned from the Presidency of Ballinfoyleburg as he found it to stressful to direct the executive branch. Vice President Ludwig Collins ascended to the presidency, leaving the office of Vice President vacant.

Appointment of Jan Kotoński

On 19 February 2022, over a month after the resignation crisis, Jan Kotoński, Premier of the East Galway Commune, became the second Vice President of Ballinfoyleburg.

Transition to the Commonwealth

On 30 May 2022, the Provisional Ruling Council disestablished the Most Honourable Republic of Ballinfoyleburg, and established the Commonwealth of Ballinfoyleburg. The Vice Presidency was vacated whilst the Ruling Council was in power. After the transition, Thomas Jacobs was made Vice President.

Duties

Commonwealth age

Though the Vice President’s main duty was to succeed to the Presidency in the case that the incumbent was removed for what ever reason from office, they were also the chief advisor and advocate for the President, assisting them in executive and legislative duties.

Semi-presidential republic

Under the semi-presidential republic, the Vice Presidency was a weak office, holding no legislative duties and minor executive duties, as deputy head of state. The Vice-Chancellor served as the deputy head of government of the Republic.

Presidential republic

Under the presidential republic, the Vice Presidency was at its height. The vice president, Ludwig Collins, was both de facto leader and the Commander-in-Chief of the Wehrmacht.
