The Premier of East Galway, officially the Premier of the East Galwegian Socialist Republic[a] was the head of government of East Galway. The Premier was invested with the running of the executive branch in name of the President of the Socialist Republic, and nominated the Vice-Premier, ministers and other executive officers. The Premier was appointed by the President of East Galway on the advice of the House of Representatives.

History

The Premier was established at the first and inaugural in-person meeting of the East Galway Soviet to establish leadership. The position was established as the Chairman of the East Galway Soviet, with Jan Kotoński as the inaugural holder. Thomas Jacobs became the first vice-chairman of the East Galway Soviet. Ludwig Collins became the first General Secretary, the chief of staff and auditor of the East Galway People's Executive.

The position was established as the spokesman of the Soviet and later Commune. The duties of a head of state, not present in the Commune, was entrusted equally in the Premier of the People's Executive, the Chairman of the People's Assembly (the Vice-Premier of the People's Executive was the designated chairman of the Assembly) and the Paramount Justice.

On 7 January 2022, Thomas Jacobs declared the East Galway Commune, a stateless communist society.

On 10 January 2022, the positions of chairman and vice-chairman of the People's Executive were renamed to Premier and Vice-Premier of the People's Executive respectively. The position of General Secretary was unchanged.

On 8 April 2022, the Provisional Government was declared, and the commune was reformed into the East Galwegian Socialist Republic, and the position was renamed the Premier of the East Galwegian Socialist Republic.

In February 2023, Premier Kotoński resigned his office, leading to Vice-Premier Ludwig Collins assuming the office. His time in office was limited as he resigned two days later after a dispute with the Blueshirt Movement leadership. President Thomas Jacobs assumed the premiership in an acting capacity.

In July 2023, Jacobs dissolved the nation, after a long period of inactivity.

Responsibilities and duties

The Premier was the head of government of East Galway, and was elected by the House of Representatives, to be appointed by the President. The Premier was ceremonially the second-highest office, behind the President, in reality it is the Premier who was the holder of the highest office.

Responsibilities

The Premier, along with the Cabinet of Ministers, were collectively responsible for the executive decisions in East Galway. The Premier acted as the Cabinet of Ministers leader, and was the nominator for the ministers, who were appointed by the President. The Premier could be removed from office by a vote of no confidence. Though the President could sack the Premier, more often the Premier left office by impeachment or resignation. If the Premier lacked a majority in the House of Representatives, he could ask the President to dissolve the House, and call early elections.
