The President of East Galway, officially the President of the East Galwegian Socialist Republic, was the constitutional head of state of East Galway, and commander-in-chief of the Free People’s Army. The President was elected by direct vote for a term of 1 year, renewable infinitely. The President was responsible for appointing the Cabinet of Ministers, the Premier, swearing in Representatives, bestowing honours, and led the Free People’s Army as civilian Commander in Chief.
History
The office of President was established on the 18th of April 2022, after the formation of the East Galwegian Socialist Republic. Previously under the East Galway Commune, there was no head of state as the commune declared itself de jure a stateless society. Due to it being a quasi-state, the office of head of state was effectively exercised by the Peoples' Assembly, headed by the Vice-Premier as Chairman.
