HIM Emperor Jonathan I, known as HIH Crown Prince Jonathan before becoming Monarch, is the fourth Emperor of Austenasia and constitutionally-designated Founder of the country. Prime Minister from the Empire of Austenasia's independence in September 2008 to his ascension to the Throne on 20 January 2013, and son of the founding Emperor Terry I, Jonathan I was de jure Heir to the Throne to all three of his predecessors, with the second and third Monarchs becoming Emperors through Acts of Parliament instead of the rules of succession.

Jonathan I ruled Austenasia as head of state from his accession until 30 April 2024, when he instituted a Regency. From that date onwards, he withdrew from the leadership of the nation - which has since been exercised in his name by his heir Prince Regent Aggelos - but conceded to popular demand in not abdicating and consenting to remain as nominal Monarch.

The Emperor's time in power was notable for a huge expansion of the Empire both in terms of size and population, and the establishment of Christianity as Austenasia's official state religion. Another notable aspect was the promulgation of numerous comprehensive pieces of legislation in both criminal and civil law, including the monumental Codex Jonathanus. He became the longest-reigning Austenasian Monarch, beating the record of his predecessor, on 22 February 2015.

The Emperor remains Representative of Wrythe, and also directs the Imperial Geographical Society. In addition to these roles, Jonathan I is an amateur historian, journalist, playwright and actor, and is co-owner and a leading administrator of MicroWiki.

Arms

As Heir to the Throne, Jonathan's arms were the Imperial Standard of Austenasia differenced with a label of three points argent, the first and third points having a laurel wreath as brisures, and the second point having a Chi-Ro as a brisure. As Monarch, he now bears the Imperial Standard undifferenced. He furthermore has separate arms for use in his capacity as Great King in Carshalton and as holder of various titles of landed nobility, but these are rarely used, and even then never not alongside the Imperial Standard.

On 30 November 2015, Jonathan I adopted an Imperial Cipher, for use in situations where a personal emblem would be more appropriate, e.g. as a seal for signing documents. The cipher is based on that of the late medieval Roman Palaiologos dynasty, with the Vergina Sun included to symbolise his descent from the Argeads and Diadochi.

Ancestry

Research into the Royal ancestry of the House of Austen has revealed the descent of Jonathan I and his family from the monarchs and dynasties of numerous polities, both ancient and medieval, including several claimed descents from antiquity (insofar as such can be established given the scarcity of conclusive evidence). The immediate ancestors of Jonathan I, up to his great-great-grandparents, are as follows:
