The Nova-Occitania local elections in April 2020 were the third local elections since the re-foundation of Occitania.
Background
The first local elections in July 2019 aimed to elect representatives who would later set up local political institutions (Municipality in Babougrad, Generalitat in Three Flowers, Council of State in Shalom and Benyamin and General Council in Tartuga). The Constitution indicates that local elections are held every four months, but here they were not called in November but delayed by a month to allow all of the local political structures to be established. Once these steps have been completed, and in accordance with his constitutional powers, the President of the Union Babou Chkaya published the decree calling the elections on April 19, 2020.[1]
It was decided on March 17 to maintain the March 2020 Presidential election despite the Covid-19 crisis of which at that time an Occitanian citizen was infected. However, each territory will set up an electronic voting system on the same model as citizens living abroad.[2] The same model was used for this local elections.
Electoral system
The poll is organized in a single round, the candidate with the largest number of votes is elected head of its territory.
Candidates and results
Absence of opposition
None of the candidates encountered opposition during local votes, only their candidacy had been declared. The Democratic Party did not want to present a candidate for Three Flowers because of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic in Occitania who that took place in this viguerie.
