The Royal Vishwamitran Navy (Hindi: राज विश्वामित्र नौसेना) was the naval warfare branch of the Vishwamitran Armed Forces. The Rashtradhyaksh was the Supreme Commander of the Navy while the Chief of the Naval Staff, a four-star admiral was the professional head of the navy.
The naval branch of the armed forces was formally created on 21 February 2021 and catered honorary and nominal services to the nation until its abolition on 17 July 2022. The naval force was practically never utilized and discharged ceremonial functions with little to no duties.
History
The rank of an "Admiral" was first introduced on 14 May 2018 following the creation of the armed forces. Klarissa Sriraya was appointed to the rank of an admiral while Asmi Patranabis was appointed as a vice-admiral. Both of them were considered as the commander and deputy commander respectively of the naval force. Finally, on 21 February 2021, the Royal Vishwamitran Navy was formally established as the naval branch of the Royal Vishwamitran Armed Forces.
The navy, along with the Royal Vishwamitran Air Force were dissolved on 17 July 2022 and the Royal Vishwamitran Army was re-designated as the sole defence unit of the nation.
Command
At the time of its creation, the navy, like the other branches, was commanded by a three-star vice admiral rank officer who was titled as the "Commander of the Navy" and the tri-services commanders reported to the Chief of the Defence Staff, who was the professional head of the armed forces. The position of the commander was vacant until the appointment of Vice Admiral John Caravaggio III on 29 May 2021. He was dismissed from office two months later on 9 July 2021 and Sander Koff was appointed in his place.
On 24 August 2021, the commanders of the tri-services were designated as "Chiefs of Forces" with the rank of a four-star officer. Thereupon, Vice Admiral Sander Koff was re-designated as Chief of the Naval Staff and promoted to the rank of an admiral. He resigned months later on 16 December to join politics. Upon his resignation, former navy commander John Caravaggio III was appointed as Chief of the Naval Staff and served in office until the force's dissolution in July 2022. Following the abolition of the navy, he was appointed as Chief of General Staff and later as Chief of Army Staff.
