The Chief of the Naval Staff (Hindi: नौसेना प्रमुख‎) was the title of the professional head of the Royal Vishwamitran Navy. The position was first created as that of the "Commander of the Navy" upon the creation of the naval force on 21 February 2021. The first commander of the navy was John Caravaggio III who later also served as the final holder of the office as "Chief of Naval Staff" until the dissolution of the navy in July 2022.

History

The position of the professional head of the navy was created as that of the "Commander of the Navy" on 21 February 2021. The position was vacant until 29 May 2021 when Vice Admiral John Caravaggio III was appointed as the commander. He was removed from office on 9 July 2021 and was succeeded by the Deputy Commander of the Navy Rear Admiral Sander Koff who was then promoted to the rank of a vice-admiral.

In a cabinet decision on 24 August 2021, the commanders of the tri-services were promoted to the rank of four-star officer and their title was re-designated as "Chief of Staff". Following such move, then Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Sander Koff was appointed as the Chief of the Naval Staff and promoted to the rank of a full admiral. However, he resigned from office on 16 December 2021 to enter politics. He was succeeded by his deputy, Vice Admiral John Caravaggio III, a former naval commander, as the chief of naval staff and remained in office until the dissolution of the navy on 17 July 2022.

Appointment

The Chief of the Naval Staff was appointed by the Rashtradhyaksh, as the Commander-in-Chief of the Vishwamitran Armed Forces on the advice of the Minister of Defence.
