The House of Cristosomi-Baldovini (Italian: Casato dei Cristosomi-Baldovini) is an artificial Landopian noble family of Italian origin. It is the ruling royal house of the Kingdom of Landopia and the Crown Dominion of Island of Saint John.

The house was founded de facto in 2018 by Carlo I, following the declaration of independence of Landopia, but officially organized (de jure) only in 2023, as the development of the kingdom's national symbols was underway.

Etymology

The name derives from two religious and historical figures studied by Carlo I: the modified name of John Chrysostom (Cristosomi, and not Crisostomi), ancient Greek bishop and theologian who, heard his eloquence, his rhetorical skills in homiletics subsequently earned him the epithet Chrysostom, literally "golden mouth", and Baldwin IV of Jerusalem, king of Jerusalem from 1178 until his death in 1185.The family, of fervent Catholic faith, wanted to found the house in honor of these two figures from the history of Christianity.

History

Origins of the Cristosomi-Baldovini Family

The Cristosomi-Baldovini family was informally established in 2018 by Carlo I, following the declaration of independence of Landopia under the name Uberti-Dolfin-Cento for the Principality of Landopia. From 2018 to 2023, there were no significant changes or developments regarding the establishment of a royal house, as there was little interest in formalizing it.

De jure royal family proclamation

On 17 December 2023, with the unveiling of a new national flag, the royal family was officially established, with a largely ceremonial or symbolic purpose. The national flag changed, replacing the Uberti-Dolfin-Cento coat of arms with the new Cristosomi-Baldovini emblem. The family draws inspiration from several European royal and noble houses, including those from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Italy, as well as their legal systems—particularly in areas like asset division, inheritance, and heraldry.

The founding of the family marked the beginning of the development of heraldic traditions, nobility structures, and state functions within Landopia. This period saw a series of royal decrees, parliamentary laws related to the economy, and ministerial directives. Reforms were introduced in military, heraldic, political, and social spheres, contributing to the shaping of Landopian culture and the establishment of security and judicial systems across the regions.

Recognition and Expansion

On 4 July 2024, the family received its first foreign title: the Marquisate of Terrafina from the Kingdom of Egemonica. With the initiation of diplomatic relations with other kingdoms and royal families, the Cristosomi-Baldovini family became part of the broader micronational royal landscape.

Titles

The house, besides the Kingdom of Landopia, has never reigned or ruled in other principalities, kingdoms or empires. The titles won by the family, therefore, come exclusively from the Kingdom of Landopia. The principal titles of the House are:

On 4 July 2024, however, after the mutual recognition between the Kingdom of Landopia and the Kingdom of Egemonica, the family was assigned the title of Marquis of Terrafina, possession of the Egemonense Crown:

  • Marquis of Terrafina (Principality of Terrafina) (since 2024)

Heraldic lineage

De terra vero nulla (salica) in muliere hereditas non pertinebit, sed ad virilem sexum qui fratres fuerint tota terra pertineat.

— Clovis I

The Landopian royal family plans to implement the Lex Salica (Salic law), where it provides that daughters cannot inherit "Salic lands" (but are not excluded from other assets, including territories not belonging to that region). The name, as can be guessed, derives from the two main families: that of Cristosomi and that of Baldovini.

Coat of Arms

The blazon

The coat of arms of the Landopian royal family is the same as that of the kingdom of Landopia. As in many European monarchies, the choice to include the family's coat of arms in the national coat of arms indicates the greatness, influence and power of the latter. The creation of the new coat of arms and the house was thought of after the King assessed the non-playfulness of the previous coat of arms, derived from three existing and truly noble families. On 17 December 2023 the King proclaimed the creation of the new Royal Coat of Arms (and the new name of the Royal Family), based on the standards of Landopian and European heraldry.
