The Arstotzkan Federal Police Service is the national police service and main law enforcement agency of the Arstotzkan Union, responsible for preventing crime, enhancing public safety, bringing offenders to justice, and maintaining public order. With about 4 personnel, it is the largest law enforcement agency in the Arstotzkan Union and, with few exceptions, has primary jurisdiction over the majority of the Arstotzkan Union's criminal law.
Policing in the Arstotzkan Union has been the responsibility of the Arstotzkan Federal Guard for the most part of the nations near four year history, with talks of forming an Arstotzkan Police Service being announced in October 2021. This was to replace the Police Service of Arstotzka, a branch of the Arstotzkan Union Defense Forces, 10th Division, 4th Regiment. However the First President never went much further.
In 2022 however, the Arstotzkan Federal Government began working on bettering the justice system in the Arstotzkan Union and so passed the Crimes Act 2022 which formed the Federal Judiciary and the Police Force and Public Order Act 2022 which established the Arstotzkan Union's first non military police force.
Minister of Justice Peter Gedye is the current Chief of the Arstotzkan Federal Police Service.
History
Police action in the Arstotzkan Union began on 22 August 2019 with the creation of the National Guard of the Arstotzkan Union, a battalion of soldiers of the Arstotzkan Army Corps who were ordered to keep order and peace around the Arstotzkan Union and its border with New Zealand, as well as to maintain public order in the cities.
This remained the status quo for many months until discussions in the Arstotzkan Federal Government began talking about a better public image regarding the Arstotzkan Union. Vice President Zion Ormsby urged First President Ethan Brinkman, who was also the Commander in Chief of the Arstotzkan Union Defense Forces (now People's Armed Forces of the Arstotzkan Union) to establish a police force. On 15 October 2020, Ethan Brinkman announce the creation of the Police Service of Arstotzka, the 11th Division of the 4th Regiment of the National Army.
The Police Service was never used in major operations and it was dissolved on 31 October 2021 when the Executive Presidential Order 0001 came into force and the Arstotzkan Police Service was established.
With the second round of discussions regarding the democratic image and idea of the Arstotzkan Union and its protectors as well as with advancements in the judicial sector and criminal law being established in the Arstotzkan Union, the Executive Committee formed the Arstotzkan Federal Police Service, stripping the policing powers from the Arstotzkan Federal Guard and establishing a national police force and a presidential guard force.
Command sectors
The Arstotzkan Federal Police Service follows the lines of the Federal Judiciary and its Federal District Circuits with its command areas. These are:
- Federal Police Command (For Territories based in the Tauranga Micronational Area, United States and Australia, works with the Arstotzkan Presidential Guard)
- Northern Police Command (For territories based on the New Zealand North Island, outside the Federal Command)
- Southern Police Command (For territories based on the New Zealand South Island)
A fourth command sector was established, the American Police Command, which was the main territorial police force in the Severoamerikansky Territory until it was dissolved.
The Arstotzkan Federal Police Service works along with the State Committee for National Security and Intelligence as well as the People's Armed Forces Command in administering the Arstotzkan Union's military police branches. The Arstotzkan Military Police Office, as its known administers the 132nd Joint Military Police Company (Arstotzkan Army Corps), Military Intelligence Directorate (SCNSI), Government Protection Service Branch (SCNSI) and People's Armed Forces Security Enforcement Branch (SCNSI).
For border related activities, the role was mainly left to the People's Armed Forces. The 21st National Defense Battalion held the duty of protecting the nations borders until 30 September 2023, when the Executive Committee amended the duties and created the Arstotzkan Federal Border and Customs Police Service (AFBCPS). The AFBCPS is a child of the AFPS and administers security over borders and protection of international travellers and trade.
Roles
The Arstotzkan Federal Police Service has many roles and ranks similar to the People's Armed Forces, and ranks were also created by Commander Liam Huxley who also created the modern ranks for the People's Armed Forces.
