The Royal Diet officially the The Serene Diet of the Most Honorable Lords and Peers in all of the Bradonian Realm is the legislative body of the Kingdom of Bradonia. Unlike most legislative bodies, the Bradonian Royal Diet is subordinate to the Monarch, whom the parliament must answer to in order to pass legislation. The Royal Diet is unicameral and consists of one house, the House of Lords. The Bradonian Royal Diet typically meets in Tsarstrina Palace, Tseleberna.
The House of Lords consists of three types of members, royalty, consisting of members of the House of Meurna, nobility, consisting of the aristocracy and the clergy, consisting of religious figures from the Reformed Church of Bradonia. Appointment into the House of Peers, requires appointment by the King, and to be a member of the nobility, in which members serve at His Majesty's Pleasure or until resignation or death.
History
In July 2022, the Kingdom of Bradonia underwent government reform under, Lord Bernhardt's leadership. Parliamentarianism had failed before due to the disdain for democracy and lack of a sustainable population to have a parliament, as such absolutism was key in running the nation. Despite these failed attempts, another attempt to form a functioning government would begin. On 16 July 2022, former Chancellor Albert L. was reinstated, and the construction of the Royal Diet began.
Structure
The Chancellor is the leader of the Bradonian Royal Diet, being both the Presider of the Royal Diet and President of the House of Peers. While not the head of government, the Chancellor possesses the ability to impose legislation on his own with the consent of the King who must approve it before it can become legislation. The Chancellor, alongside the Lords of Parliament, can propose legislation, which can be accepted via a 3/5th majority, approval from the Chancellor, and approval from the King.
The Chancellor holds the right to veto proposed legislation, however, this can be overturned by the Lords of Parliament by a 3/5th majority, however, the Lords of Parliament can not veto the King's refusal to pass legislation, and furthermore can actively dismiss nobles who "act out of line" or do not accept "royal refusal". The King also has the power to dissolve the Royal Diet, and the consent of his own will, and can do so if parliament acts out of line. Unlike most legislative bodies, the Bradonian Royal Diet is not politically divided, with political parties and associations being banned, and political polarization being actively discouraged by the King.
Meeting Place
Whilst, most members of the Bradonian Royal Diet meet using FaceTime or the Groupchat, the meeting place of the Royal Diet is considered to be Elselworth Palace in Griffinburg from the Royal Office. The Bradonian Royal Diet typically meets on Wednesdays, however, emergency sessions can be hosted before Wednesdays if the situation calls for it.
