Emmanuel Maghos Starlynn (Sabian: imañel mago tenavái sitarlinn) is a Sabioveronese businessman and politician from the Liberal Party. Since 2017 he has sat in Parliament as an MP for the Gonn List, and previously served as Secretary of Commerce, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Bank of Sabia and Verona.
The patriarch of the prominent Starlynn family and founder, CEO and president of Starlynn & Co. Enterprises, Emmanuel Starlynn started his career in the private sector before the establishment of present-day Sabia and Verona. He first became involved in politics after his participation in the Haronos Plan and his settlement in Alios, when he became the first chairman of the National Bank, founded by Shounn Virny in 2015. He subsequently joined the Liberals and became Secretary of Commerce and Deputy Prime Minister under Noa Dargany, following the Liberals' victory in the 2017 general election, in which he became a Member of Parliament for the Gonn Region.
Within his party, Starlynn is considered to be both economically and socially liberal, and is part of the so-called "Blackhorse liberals", as he joined the party in the aftermath of Andrew Blackhorse's party program reforms that turned the conservative Unity Party into the modern Liberal Party.
Early life and career
The Starlynn famil is originally from Hamburg, Germany. Emmanuel Maghos, like his cousins Hans, Wilhelm and Gerhard, lived with the Karjasari household and moved with them to Venezuela in 2002. In this regard, the Starlynn family belongs to the same group of Valtirians who precede the establishment of Sabia and Verona by at least a decade, such as Snø Jens-Galieri, Ulla Müller and Harmê Bertram.
During the early days of Sabia and Verona, Emmanuel established the Starlynn & Co. company alongside his siblings; the company originally sold pre-manufactured automobiles, but this business soon proved unprofitable, and the business diversified. In 2013 Starlynn co-founded the Starlynn & Bennet media group alongside Orion K. Bennet; the group's main asset is The SiV Phonograph, Sabia and Verona's oldest and most popular media outlet.[1] Since 2020, Starlynn & Bennet has also owned mbirág aliosin, the only current Sabian language media outlet.[2]
Political career
Unlike his siblings, the Starlynn triplets, who were active in Sabioveronese politics throughout the Juclandian and Isadoran eras (Hans Starlynn was the founder of the far-right Righteous Faith League, while Wilhelm was a legislator and home minister in the Rivière cabinet), Emmanuel was not explicitly involved in politics until after Haronos, choosing instead to focus on Starlynn & Co's private ventures.
In November 2015, Starlynn was appointed chairman of the newly established National Bank of Sabia and Verona by then-prime minister Shounn Virny.[3] Virny valued economic development as part of his first government's plan, and entrusted Starlynn as he was well known for his private sector success. During his time as chair of the National Bank, Starlynn cooperated with Shassel Marlaryen in the Commerce Division to establish the Sabioveronese groxi, the Kingdom's first national working currency.[4]
Starlynn stepped down from his post at the National Bank and ran for Parliament in the Gonn list in 2017 general election, as part of the Liberal Party. When the new Liberal leader Noa Dargany, became prime minister, she appointed Starlynn to her cabinet as the new Secretary of Commerce.[5] He was also appointed Deputy Prime Minister, highlighting Dargany's focus on economic development during her first government. Starlynn was not renewed as Deputy PM in Dargany's second government, though he did remain in office as Commerce Secretary.
Starlynn retained his seat in Parliament in the 2019 general election, though the Liberals were unable to retain their majority, and Starlynn was once again replaced by Democrat Snø Jens-Galieri when the 12th government took office on 3 June 2019.[6]
Personal life
Starlynn is a Pahunist. His middle name, Maghos, is the Middle Sabian spelling variant of Mago, the god of winds and son of Darmo in Valtirian mythology.
