Klaise, officially known as the Autocracy of Klaise, is a micronation in eastern North America. The country is notable for having a government in which rural areas are considered anarchist, while cities and metro areas are incorporated as communes. The country's geography ranges from dry high plateaus to wet swamps. Klaise can be considered a conservative nation, as most of the people are against progressive values and are heavily against immigration. As a nation of forest dwelling homesteaders, the country's main product is wood, and only produces enough resources to sustain its self.

All dates are formatted to the Klaisese calendar. See here to understand the calendar.

Before Klaise (before 200)

It is unknown what civilization inhabited Klaise before 1950 (-800), but it is known that there was a logging buissness in the area because there are logging roads, logging equipment, and chopped down trees left around Klaise's forests.

In circa 200, Vincent Schandleire established the Duchy of Dodoa. During the Second Century, the nation remained a duchy until 250, when the idea of an autocracy came up. This new nation Schandleire created was named Bigboygque. This nation existed from 250 to 285 when the Duchy of Dodoa was reborn in 285. The Duchy of Dodoa existed until 290. The new name of the autocratic union would be a mystery until user November Klause would get on MicroWikia and misspell his last name as Klaise. As the then current head autocrat, made the name Klaise. The nation was a right wing Conservative and primarily Protestant nation until the 330s. Around this time is when Klaise would get into it's current state of political stance. Vincent Schandleire was voted to be the first centralist Head Autocrat in 321. After Schandleire was voted in, he transformed the nation's far right views to be central and irreligious. In 361, Dexter Seycraft was elected into office as the second self-claimed centralist. Dexter Seycraft's autocracy lasted until 364, when he resigned and put Schandleire in his place.

Northern Conflicts (370-385)

Beginning in 381, the Aquilonians have been trespassing on Klaisese lands, and have been vandalizing public infrastrucure. The Cervos Dam is a main cause of the conflict. North of the Cervos River is Aquilonia. The Aquilonians have provoked Klaise and have vandalized the Cervos Dam and have threatened the nearby states of Cervos, Smokia and Scipler. Residents in the settlement of Cervos have left because most of the buildings in the settlement are small cabins and sheds that people can easily rebuild. People that have left have settled in the states of Smokia and Scipler. The main settlements they have formed include Lepusler, which is now the capitol of Smokia, and an unnamed cluster of homes in northern Scipler. Before the leaves arrived in April, the people in Lepusler could clearly see the settlement of Cervos and the opposite side of the valley where Aquilonia is. Here was a scouting point. In late April to early May, residents could hear dogs barking and what seemed to be feral dogs arrived, and they are suspected to be let loose by someone from Aquilonia. The federation of Klaise is partly done for the state of Aquilonia to have some sort of autonomy of their own.

During the 380s, Klaise pulled out from Cervosia and decided to move the northern development to Smokia.

Federation (384)

The states of Klaise

In 384, Schandleire was put back into office by Dexter Seycraft after more than a year of absence. A complete centeralized state had haulted Klaise's progress, so Schandleire made the nation a federation of states like it originally was. With the new system came individual autocrats for each state. Each state has it's own Autocrat who has the same autocratic powers as the Head Autocrat does, but only within the given state they hold power in. There are certain qualifications for a state to become a state. The population must be above five, it must be above four square kilometers, and it must have a permanent settlement in it's boundaries. Each state has it's own capitol and the area where the Autocrat does their things are of the responsibility of the state. At the moment, there are eight states in the federation.

Annexation of Kataun (385)

In 385, Kataun was annexed to Klaise's federation. Kataun is a 0.0109 sq km area that is seven miles east of the contiguous borders of Klaise. Kataun is mostly uninhabited, but workers from Klaise come to Kataun for work in Kataun's agriculture industry. Kataun has a 9 acre farm that farms a variety of crops, such as green beans, tomatoes, corn, squash and watermelon to sell in the US. Kataun's land has been owned by Klaise's autocracy for decades, but hasn't been annexed until now.

Urbanization (380s)

Kekyl is now the largest city by size in Klaise, due to constant development happening. Kekyl is a crossroads, commercial center, and is on the shores of Kekyl Bay, which is on Lake November. Kekyl's downtown and center of population has shifted from east central Geoxe to the northeast of Geoxe due to the lake being in the north and the development being more attracted to the water than to the residential area. Downtown Kekyl has many promising projects coming up, as with the Kekyl Tower being under planning, which is to be a sixty foot tall tower based on the Eiffel Tower with a fourty foot tall spire for telecommunications, and for observation. The population of Monomew is around thirty, making it the most densely populated area in Klaise, but Kekyl is less dense, being more of a suburban area without multi-story buildings, but that is to change, as Kekyl may see new buildings that can house way more people than is needed.

The Nineties (389-401)

View from the Schandlerian plateau

Beginning in 389, the downfall of Klaise as a country began. The draining of Lake Kekyl caused the high demand of water, but a low supply due to Aquilonian tensions. All of the jobs in Kekyl disappeared, and an economic recession began. Demand for wood went down while wood was still being produced, causing a large surplus of wood. This wood was used to build a military base in what would become Isciler. This time period can be described as a dark time of hopelessness by the Klaisese. The military began to develop things more, and the flag was changed from a white background and blue seal to a black background and red seal. The Reformation Act can be considered the end of this period because it is what got the attention of macronational authorities. Macronational involvement began in 400, and nothing of that can be disclosed for legal reasons. After the Autocracy was restored later that year, a jolt of productivity produced the Cervos Bridge and the construction of Isciler. A result of the macronational involvement was more isolation on the Autocracy's part, and a higher standard of confidentiality. In 401, Schandleire acknowledged the generally bad things this time period did to Klaise. Despite containing three years that aren't in the 390s, the time period is generally called The Nineties because the period happened mainly in the 390s.

Reformation Act (398)

The year of 2016 and early 2017 in the Klaisese calendar

The Reformation Act is an autocratic act enacted by Vincent Schandleire to reform Klaisese culture and many other things. In late 2016, talks of a new calendar system took place, and a new calendar in which every year is eighteen years, and the origin year being 1995 was created. Each year is 20 days, and there are four months in a year with five days in each month. Besides the calendar, Klaise has reformed it's form of governing my transitioning into a fascist state. Along with this change came a new flag. Instead of the blue seal on a white background, the flag changed to a maroon seal to a black background. According to Vincent Schandleire, the Autocrat, the flag change was made because the new design is more aesthetically pleasing, and more symbolic of the substantial growth of Klaise as a powerful entity in the region with it's military and architecture.

As part of the Reformation Act, Aquilonia's western border was redrawn, and the state was given autonomy. Because of Aquilonia's refusal to cooperate with affairs in Monomew, the Reformation Act granted Aquilonia autonomy as an autonomous state, and the state can leave the federation if it pleases. Schandleire's reasoning for this is that the resources in Aquilonia are not worth a war, and Maxauten Territory and Diluvame Territory are both far away from Aquilonian interference, and the resources are far more plentiful in the western territories.

Second Reformation Act (405)

A map of Klaise with incorporated zones

The Second Reformation is an autocratic act enacted by Vincent Schandleire to further reform the government. As Klaise began to administrate the vast expanses of forest in the northern parts of the country, the Autocracy realized it was pointless to regulate anything in the isolated areas of Klaise. A proposition developed, a new political ideology. This ideology would allow for incorporated cities, or metro areas to govern and administrate themselves and their people and provide services as a private organization, while highways between cities would be publically owned and maintained by the people that use them. The land inbetween incorporated areas are to be free zones for those wanting to live indepedent of society. The unincorporated areas would have no regulation, and no administration. This ideology would allow for the cities such as Monomew, Kekyl and Isciler to govern the city limits, and operate as property of the Autocracy, while the rest of the land except for private roads is unaccountable. This reformation caused the removal of states. Now, incorporations operate as city-states in a confederation.

Along with the reformation of the government, Klaise has reformed its law and methods of prosecution. After the act, the law can not be changed. Many people in the nation agree that legislation is the root of corruption, and this autocratic act removes legislation altogether. The only laws that are enforced in Klaise after 405 are in the incorporated areas, and those laws are only from the constitution. Prosecution is now done differently. Previously, an improvised court would trial a criminal. Now, a speedy trial prosecutes a criminal within a three month time span. If a person is not indicted or cited 90 days after the crime, they are considered innocent and it is forbidden to prosecute them after 90 days for that crime. What is considered evidence is now changed. Freedom of speech has been emphasized. Nothing anyone says can be used against them, even a confession isn't evidence. The only evidence that is considered damning in the autocratic court is physical evidence. Photographs, video and audio are not accepted because of the ability to alter them, along with internet chat logs. The incarceration of convicts has been reformed to rehabilitate and condition inmates to society, practically eliminating repeat offenders.

A mounted weapon designed to launch projectiles

The Klaisese military is the armed forces for Klaise. Klaise's military is only organized as a centralized branch, and is currently headquartered in Monomew. The military consists of twelve members, and there are three fortifications around the nation. The military is developing weapons, mainly artillery, such as ballistas that can throw shells as far as a mile away to be set up on the edge of the Schandlerian Plateau. Another choice of weapon being developed is the plaque storm. This type of weapon can be shot from a ballista, or from any other sort of kinetic launcher. A plaque storm is shot vertically into the air and blows open above the target. The plaque weapon contains fine powder, such as dust from dry dirt. This dust rains upon the target and leaves a large cloud of dust, causing respiratory issues of those in the range of the target, in which it "plaques up the lungs", which is where the name "plaque storm" comes from. Another development of the Klaisese military is a fort system near Isciler on the edge of the Schandlerian plateau that is equipped with trebuchets and ballistas.

Federal level

The federal government of Klaise is autocratic, meaning one person is the head of state and can call for an autocratic act. The federal level of government is called the Head Autocracy, and is usually called the Autocracy because it is the only autocratic level of government in the country.

Since the Second Reformation Act, states and territories have been abolished and incorporations take their place. These incorporations act as states, but they are privately owned jointly by the Autocracy and whoever resides within the borders of it. Incorporations typically offer many opportunities to it's citizens, and operate as a commune. The idea of an economy is practically non-existant in these areas because if the work done for something doesn't pay off an equal or greater amount of profit, then it is not worth creating. These municipalities can be considered communist and socialist economically. Socially, incorporations retain their culture and identity, and have different values and views on many subjects. The Monomew/Kekyl incorporation is diverse ethnically, but is socially right wing, while the Isciler incorporation is monogenous and is economically left, but socially right. Due to the nature of incorporations, they require an application to join and have the ability to indict and convict it's criminals. The only power an incorporation legally has is the power to ostracize, in which a convict is forcefully expelled from the incorporation.

Unincorporated areas

The rest of Klaise falls under this category. Unincorporated areas are technically under anarchy, and no regulations apply to those that live in these areas. While these areas are considered unregulated and anarchist by the Head Autocracy and the Second Reformation Act, nothing stops people from taking advantage of the land and the people that reside here. People in unincorporated areas usually have to protect or hide their assets.

The southern parts of Klaise are on top of the Cumberland Plateau in what is macronationally known as southeastern Kentucky. The plateau slopes down in to the north until the edge of the plateau is reached, where slopes can be as steep at 30 degrees. Klaise has many regions and climates, which can differ from muggy swamps to dry high plains. Klaise's urban areas are mainly situated on the Klaisese Plains, which is an open area of rolling hills on a ridge. North of this ridge are the edges of the plateau which have eroded and made many drainage basins. On the east is the Scipler Valley, which is the most extreme in depth, with cliffs in some places, and on the west is the Smokia Valley, which is more shallow, but acts as a drainage basin for the west.

The Cervos Dam before being destroyed

There are a few bodies of water around Klaise, and the most prominent and the most permanent is the Cervos River in the north. The river is disputed between the Aquilonia and Klaisese. The Cervos Dam was a reservoir on the river before a large storm occured and the dam busted from flooding. The dam had been neglected for two months and hadn't been packed down or maintenanced by anyone due to everyone leaving the areas near the water due to conflicts.

A cat on the shore of Lake Kekyl

A lake called Lake Kekyl existed from 2011 to 2016, but in late August, the dam was undone because of poor water quality. As of currently, Lake Kekyl's dry basin is used as a transportation hub, and currently holds a T intersection for two major roads in Klaise. This lake was the main source of water from March to August in 2016. The reasoning for transitioning from taking water from the Cervos River to Lake Kekyl was because of a land dispute between the Klaisese and the Aquilonians. Not only that, but after the Klaisese abandoned Cervosia, the dam was left unkept, so it eventually gave way to a flash flood around April of 2016.

A few drainage basins are in the area, such as the DS River, which is not a river, but a dry drainage basin, and the Clover River, which feeds it's water into a small pond in Scipler, and is also a dry drainage basin. The Clover and DS River basins join to make the Scipler River, that is also temporary and is only filled when it floods and feeds into the Cervos.

Klaise has a population of around 20. The center of population is between Monomew and Kekyl. Houses and farms line Express 1 due to the road connecting the two main settlements. Klaise does not have a famine, or a food shortage, but around 33% of the population is underweight. The average height of males in Klaise is 5'11", or 180 centimeters, and the average weight for males is 160 pounds, or 70 kilograms.

Crime in Klaise is usually gang related or vandalism. Gangs in Monomew and Ausshaffen are rivals and will usually have fights and disputes over areas in both cities. Gangs disrupt the peace through assaulting each other or vandalizing things. Crime is dealt with by Schandleire on a federal scale and if the person being charged with the crime is currently renting property owned by Schandleire macronationally, they will either be evicted from the property to find another area to live in, or go under house arrest. All citizens in Klaise that recognize Klaise as a soverign state must sign a waver that says that they have all Klaisese constitutional rights, and that the Klaisese autocrats have the ability to use their authority.

Klaise is an agnostic country. Because of this, there are no churches at all within it's borders. Klaise does have Christians, but all of them do not go to church. The Head Autocrat is an agnostic who leans towards the possibility of a God.

Express Route

The Express Route is a wide road that connects major cities. There is no set standard for how wide the roads are or what material they're paved with. The roads in the southern parts of the nation are more wider and maintained than the north, and they are privately maintained by volunteers. If a road is deemed an important artery of transportation, such as Express Route 1 that connects Monomew, Kekyl and Isciler, it will be maintained by the autocracy.

The Klaisese economy operates internally and only internally. There is no trade with other nations due to the isolationist views of Klaise. The autocracy does not charge any tax on anyone, as the idea that if something won't pay for its self, it doesn't need to be paid for by the people if it won't benefit them or generate a profit. Klaise is not a capitalist country, as everything is built by the people, for the people. Most Klaisese people work in the wood industry. Wood from Scipler and Smokia are used in construction or creating things to sell, which generates a profit. Another major industry in Klaise is catnip. There are more cats than there are people, so catnip is in high demand, mainly in Monomew.
