The Republic of Wendatia,(/wɛnˈdætiːə, wɛnˈdeɪʃə/) is a micronation located in Southeastern Michigan. It is completely surrounded by the United States. Its capital is Avienta. Wendatian territories date back to 2017-2018, however was never really active until mid-2020. It is currently one of the more well known micronations within the state of Michigan.

Etymology

The official name comes from the Wendat people, a Native American people group that had settled in the area before European explorers, and with the suffix "-ia", it could translate to "Land of Wendat". Alternative spellings of Wendat include "Wyandot" and "Wyandotte".

History

Micronations Before Wendatia

Acnaiva

In the 2017-2018 range, Jonas Rhymer created Acnaiva, sharing the same name as his former NationStates account. It was fairly inactive, without much effort put into it. It was silently dissolved around mid 2018.

Huronese Republic (Old)

During late 2019 and early 2020, Jonas Rhymer, TYWUURM, and a few other members of a discord server known as "The Chaos School" made an inside joke known as the "Huronese Republic". It was originally a political simulation, however it never really took off, and went defunct around April 2020.

Foundation

After Jonas Rhymer watched a video about MicroCon 2019, Wendatia was founded on July 27, 2020, as the Huronese Republic, with the reason being “Cuz i have nothing to do at 5 am.” It was declared on a discord server known as the "Diarchy of Mapping", in their politics channel. The claims originally expanded the entire thumb of Michigan, however actual judicial control was limited to Jonas Rhymer’s backyard. The first president's name is unknown, but they are referred to as "TYWUURM", as it is their discord username. The presidents during the time it was called the Huronese Republic were TYWUURM, Andre Carnerio, Leon Montan, and Jonas Rhymer.

Transition to Wendatia

On 9 September 2020, the nation's name was changed to Wendat, and the disputed claims were receded. Eventually, a few days later, the country was renamed "Wendatia", due to confusion with Wegmat. Jonas Rhymer officially ratified the Constitution of Wendatia on September 30, 2020. Wendatia officially recognized Artsakh as independent on 28 September 2020. On 5 October 2020, James Bornstein became a supreme judge. On 10 October 2020, Wendatia became an observer state of the Cupertino Alliance, which was later revoked.

Inactiva Period

The state of Pradera (Now Mashkode) was admitted to the Republic on 21 October 2020. On the 1st of November, the government was reorganized. This replaced the role of Prime Minister with Deputy President, which had the role of assisting the president and running the Congressional House. (Now National Assembly) On 7 November 2020, the first congressional elections began. This period is notable for the government's relative inactivity.

National Revival

Wendatia hosted their first elections in over 2 months on 28 November 2020, with the Wendatian Workers Party in the lead. This resulted in Jebediah Powell and Sean Dunkerque being elected to the Congressional House. On 1 December 2020, the first deputy elections occurred, with Leah Cohen replacing TYWUURM as deputy president. This also saw a spike in activity in Wendatia. On 12 December 2020, the Ministry of Motorways (Now Ministry of Transportation) was established.

Stagnation

A new constitution was completed and voted in on 8 February 2021, renaming the country to the Co-operative Republic of Wendatia. As a result, new elections were hosted, with the Democratic Party of Wendatia winning the majority of seats within the National Assembly. North Pradera eventually became independent on 26 March 2021, as the Praderan Republic. Within Late May to Early June 2021, the first Presidential Election in Wendatia since September 2020, resulting in Jonas Rhymer being re-elected. During the election, the decline of ¡Democracia! - People's Front, the former ruling party had begun, as the popularity of the Green Party of Wendatia had grown. Mid-june saw the annexation of Delray.

2021 Coup D'etat

Aidan McGrath launched a Coup D'etat in Wendatia in 2021. Ahortly afterwards, the republic Dissolved, with all territories joining the United States except for Delray, which became part of Paloma.

Current Times

The Third Republic was proclaimed on May 28th, 2023, with a provisional government.

Politics and government

Wendatia is a Semi-presidential system, in which the President holds the executive head, and is head of state. The Deputy President acts as the legislative head and is head of government. A multi-party system is currently present within the state, with the Green Party of Wendatia being the dominant party within the country.

Law and order

The High Courts of Wendatia is the official court of the nation. Citizens may take legal/criminal cases to the court. If the highest court is reached, the Supreme Judge decides on said case. New laws are voted on and passed by the National Assembly, which is led by the Deputy President. The Carabineros are the de-jure police force in the country.

Culture

Wendatian culture is heavily inspired by that of Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario.

Wendatia's culture is very similar to those of Michigan and Ontario (Specifically Detroit and Windsor), with some Latin American influence. Egg Noodles are a common food in the country, and a common sport during the winter is Snowboarding.

Religion

Most of the population is Atheist, and Wendatia has no official religion, nor state religion. However, there is a sizeable christian minority in Arroyo and Delray, along with a Unitarian Universalist one in South Pradera.

Delray

Delray has a long history of a Hungarian population, and it is estimated the majority of the population is Roman Catholic.

Noticaswendatia is the main news & media corporation in Wendatia, responsible for most of the country's news and media. It was created after the Wendatian People's Gazette was archived and went defunct. It is state-owned, and lead by President Jonas Rhymer. Noticeswendatia mainly reports on news within Wendatia, but will also report international news.

Wenrail

Wenrail is a State-owned railway company. It is managed by the Ministry of Motorways. Currently, a route is being planned in the capital city of Avienta. As of 3 February 2021, it remains a paper company, meaning it legally exists, but does not operate.

Avienta

Avienta used to be a swampland, however now it is a semi-forested area with suburban houses. Avienta is home to typical suburban animals, such as Squirrels, and various birds, including the American Robin. Rabbits are also common, and very rarely Deer will go through Avienta. However, Deer are more common in Pantanal and Arroyo. Rabbits are also occasionally spotted in Avienta

Pantanal

Pantanal is a marshy area, with a coast on the Salt River and Nuevo Eleusis Bay, it is heavily important for the Wendatian Coast Guard. The salt river is dotted with docks along with it, which eventually leads to Lake St. Clair. Pantanal is also home to lots of wildlife, such as the Mute Swan, the Canada goose, and the national animal, the Great Blue Heron. Deer, Rabbits and Red-Winged Blackbirds are also present in Pantanal. Plants include the bulrush, aka Cattail, Phragmites Australis, aka Common Reed (Which is considered an "Invasive Weed" in Pantanal), and several types of trees, including the Willow Tree, which can be spotted near the ghost town of Vista Eleusis.

Economy

Wendatia's biggest industry is Agriculture, with vegetable farms in Tasluut and Puerto Claria. Usually producing Cucumbers, Bell Peppers, Asparagus, among other common vegetables.

AeroWendatia

AeroWendatia is the flag carrier of Wendatia. It's fleet is currently only made up of a model Boeing 747SP.
