Zealandia, officially The Kingdom of Zealandia, (Swedish: Konungariket Zeelandien, Zealandian: Kungdern Zålandien) (IPA:/ziːˈlændiə/) is an autonomous territorial entity and self-declared sovereign state, which is often called a micronation, founded in the February of 2010. Zealandia is a parliamentary democracy under a Democratic Socialist Limited Monarchy. The incumbent Head of State is Her Majesty, Queen Lindström. The nation is famous for being based on Nordic culture.
Etymology
The Name Zealandia comes from the Sunken name of the continent of New Zealand, This name being settled upon by Sir Robert Kennedy and King Håkon because it both sounded like a real nation's name and the fact that it would be an easy recognizable name for a Nation.
History
The Kingdom of Zealandia was founded on the February 28th, 2010. Upon its founding, an election was called for, in which Robert Kennedy was elected First Minister, with a Progressive Party majority. Ruling until October of that year, Kennedy was the first of many SDPZ First Ministers.
On June 2, 2010 at approximately 2:14 PM, the Kingdom of Zealandia made its first television broadcast via livestream. On June 9, 2010 The Kingdom disbanded the Royal Zealandia Space Force and Established the Zealandian Air Force (ZAF) and the Royal Zealandian Space Agency (RZSA).
On September 4, 2010 at 4 36 AM (NZST) The Parts of the Kingdom suffered through an earthquake that measured 7.1 magnitude, which lead HM King Håkon to close the kingdom's borders to all non emergency persons who were not citizens of Zealandia and to declare a state of emergency and arm the Royal Zealandia Constabulary and Customs and Borders Police Service, this temporary measure lasted about a week before it was rescinded.
On October 12, 2010 the then First Minister General Sir Robert Kennedy resigned suddenly and took half of the Zealandian population with him when he left the micronation on the same date. The Kingdom was shaken quite badly by this blow but has soon recovered although hopes of gain the 20 citizens back have since been abandoned.
In November 2010 The Kingdom embarked on a program to build up the national culture and bring Zealandia back into a prosperous period . On December 13, 2010 Her Majesty issued a writ calling for an election of both houses of Parliament.
On December 28, 2010 Sebastian Linden led the Social Democratic Party to its biggest electoral victory.
The Kingdom was reformed into a Grand Duchy on the 5th of January 2011 and soon after joined in a union with the Principality of Eleytheria which effectively ended with the succession of Eleytheria from the Union. The Kingdom reformed from a Grand Duchy back to a Kingdom on the 21st of February 2011. On the 22nd of February 2011 the Kingdom was battered by a second earthquake which caused major Damage to Denton and the other provinces located around Christchurch New Zealand, With some citizens narrowly escaping injury or death both in Christchurch City Center and in the Suburbs of Christchurch.
Following the Earthquake the Kingdom of Zealandia Defence Force assisted with the Christchurch Cleanup despite the damage to Denton. Zealandia also opened its borders to allow the New Zealand Defence Force to establish in Hagley Province an Emergency Evacuation Center and field hospital, Hagley Province Later hosted the Christchurch memorial service.
On the 29th of September 2011 Zealandia gained its first Crown Dependency, Tiana after the Signing of the Treaty of Midsalla.
On the 7th of October 2011 King Håkon granted royal assent to a recent referendum which abolished the Zealandian Senate.
On December 1, 2011 Joseph Puglisi led the then Socialist Unity Party to electoral victory, which was the first time an openly socialist party had won.
Between February 4 and 8 2012 a period of civil conflict took place with a break away nation (Republic of Zealandia) being formed then absorbed by the Zealandia which resulted in the establishment of the office of President of Zealandia.
On May 14, 2012 politicans within Zealandia voted to accept the Nemkhav Federation Stability Mission in Zealandia (Zealandian: Nemkawðamtøk Stabulteit Misjon i Zålandien, Swedish: Nemkav Förbunds Stabilitet Mission i Zeelandien abbreviated: NFSM or NðSM)after it was proposed by former Zealandian Prime Minister and at the time current Prime Minister of the Nemkhav Federation Marka Mejakhansk and Nemkhav President Alex Ulbricht in an effort to repair Zealandia's constitutional status.
Tensions rose between the Zealandian Parliamentarians and King Haakon and Nemkhav Foreign Minister J.J Hakimoto that led to Lindström removing the mission during the late night of May 27, 2012, to which an international committie was held on the Zealandian constitution afterwards with the subsequent amendment being approved in a referendum on June 9, 2012.
Geography

Zealandia’s Physical Geography is extremely varied with the Nation having landscapes such as wide open spaces in Hagley Province to the Sheer Cliffs in Enogh Province.
Much of Southern Zealandia lies within an active seismic area withing the Canterbury Region of New Zealand.
Languages
According to the Zealandian Constitution, Zealandia has three official Languages: English, Swedish and Zealandian.
In addition to the three official languages Zealandia has occasionally Icelandic, Te Reo Māori, Dutch, Irish and Tianish.
Previous official languages include German and Francillish.
Government and politics

Politics in Zealandia are governed by the constitution, with citizens being elected to both Parliament and the office of Prime Minister. The cabinet consists of ministers who are selected from the members of the ruling party and appointed to their post by the King upon the recomendation of either the Prime Minister or Parliament.
The Prime Minister is the head of Government and chair of the Council of Ministers (which is often called Cabinet).
The Judiciary consists of the Supreme Court and the two Regional Courts.
All other court members are appointed by the government. There are currently four Political parties within the Kingdom, they range the Center Right Democratic Party of Zealandia and the largely communist Communist Party. The Parliamentary system in Zealandia is based off of the Westminster, modern Scandinavian parliamentary assemblies and Norse Things.
Military
Zealandia is a Neutrally Armed nation much like Switzerland and Ireland, Zealandia's Neutrality is controlled by the Zealandian Constitution which sets the conditions upon which Zealandia may enter into or accept hostilities. Command is vested by the Zealandian Constitution in the monarch and as such King Hakon is the Supreme Commander of the Zealandian Defence Force and all Zealandian Police Constables.
The Kingdom of Zealandia Defence Force consists of one component service:
- Royal Zealandian Coast Guard, lead by Director Mark Bobssen
Law Enforcement
Law Enforcement is carried out in Zealandia by The Royal Zealandia Constabulary.
Zealandian Law Enforcement officers (Police Constables) are unarmed generally with only authorised Firearms Officers being permitted to use firearms whilst on duty.
The Royal Zealandia Constabulary duties cover general law enforcement and policing matters as well as dealing with Customs and Border and Border Control issues and enforcement.
Culture
Despite not being in a Nordic region, the culture of Zealandia is influenced by Nordic culture and in particular the cultures of the Norse, Swedish and Icelandic people.

The Kingdom currently has an open and friendly External Affairs Policy. The Kingdom also is Constitutionally Neutrally armed.
Zealandia was a member of the Grand Unified Micronational until it left following suspension and was a member of TASPAC until it was removed in a dubious move by that organisation's chairman, Zealandia was also a member of the Organisation of Active Micronations until that organisation was wound up with King Håkon serving as it's last Secretary General (acting).
Economy
The Zealandian Economy is a central controlled socialist oriented economy.
In the past Zealandia used to posses a regulated capitalist economy complete with a stock market until the Planed Economy Act 2011 was passed and the Royal Zealandian Army occupied the Zealandian Stock Exchange Building and forcibly shut the stock exchange down amid celebrations from the Zealandian Council of Trade Unions.
Everything is nationalised and controlled by the workers through the Arebiterþings and the Zealandian Council of Trade Unions which have delegates to the Sentral Økonomien Kommissien (Central Economic Commission), which administers Zealandia's socialist economy.
Education
Education is highly valued in Zealandia with three universities being established:
