The 2024 Åland State presidential election was the first election in the Åland State. Axel Himberg would win against Wilmer Himberg with 8 votes or 83.4% and Wilmer Himberg with 1 vote or 16.6%. The vote counting was disrupted by the 2024 Åland State coup d'état. The election would take place on 28 February and vote counting began on 1 March untill the coup happened. Vote counting would continue on 2 March where Axel Himberg would be declared the winner.

Background

Axel Himberg was the head of state of the Åland State untill the 28 February where voting would begin. Untill the 30 January, when the first draft of the constitution was signed, the Åland State was a dictatorship led by Axel Himberg. The 2024 Åland State presidential primaries would take place on 17 February where Axel Himberg would win and Marius Åkerblom would be tied with Wilmer Himberg. Wilmer Himberg would be choosen since Åkerblom was on the Faroe Islands at the time.

Results

Axel Himberg win with 5 votes or 83.4% and Wilmer Himberg would get 1 vote or 16.6%. There would be less votes in the election than the primaries. The 2024 Åland State coup d'état attempt would disrupt vote counting on the 1 March but the coup attempt would end on the 2 March.
