The President of the Åland State is the head of state and head of government of the Åland State. The president is allowed to sign laws and policies in addition to the ability to declare war. As well as this the president is allowed to order the construction of buildings and can sign executive orders.
Presidential elections are annually on 28 February each year.
The incubent president is Axel Himberg who has been president since 2 March 2024.
Legislative powers
Laws and acts
The president is allowed to sign and pass laws and acts. On 5 February the first laws would be signed. The president can sign executive orders that can not be vetoed by parliament.
Executive powers
Military
The president according to article 2 can start declare wars but it can be vetoed by parliament. The president has full power over the militaries movements and budget and in general what they do.
Foreign affairs
The president according to article 3 is allowed to form alliances with other micronations if parliament also votes for it and the same for trade deals. During voting in parliament for foreign polciy the president gets two votes.
