Cerkö is the largest municipality of the Åland State. Cerkö borders the special administrative region of the Forest Area in the south and the municipality of Sugg in the west. Cerkö also has the second highest point in the Åland State being 30m above sea level (the highest is 45m above sea level). Cerkö also has the capital of the Åland State, Börkö. Cerkö has a population of 12. The governor is Axel Himberg.
History
Before Cerkö existed, it was Börkö. Börkö was founded on Långgrundsvägen in 1980. Börkö did not have a name but its first building where built. One of the first buildings was the biggest building in Börkö which is a yellow house. In 2020 the Republic of Åxenö was founded and took parts of Börkö and gave Börkö its name. Åxenö would build some roads in Börkö in 2021. In August 2023, Åxenö would annex the rest of Börkö. Parliment would be located in Börkö. After the dissolution of Åxenö, the French Republic would be founded and would take over. After the 2023 French Republic coup d'état, the Åland State would take controll. The municipality of Börkö would be founded on 30 January 2024. It would be renamed from Börkö to Cerkö.
