The Åland State is a Unitary parliamentary republic. The government is led by the president who is also the chief of defense. The president is responsible for forming alliances, going to war, forming trade deals and more but parliament can veto it. The head of state can also make any laws or acts but can also be vetoed by parliament. The president can sign executive orders that parliament can not veto. There will be an election every year on 28 February.

Parliament can also make any laws and acts. Parliament can have an emergency vote to veto any wars declared by the president.

The judicial system is led by the supreme court of the Åland State and the chief of justice who follow the laws set in the law book of the Åland State. The president also chooses his cabinet.

The Åland State is a Unitary parliamentary republic. The government is led by the president, parliament and the supreme court. The government is divided into three branches:

  • The executive branch led by the president and is independent from the legislative branch.
  • The legislative branch is led by parliament.
  • The judicial branch is led by the supreme court.

The structure and layout of the government is explained in the constitution. The population of the Åland State vote for the parliament and president every year. No vice president has been chosen yet or chief of justice for the supreme court. There are two main parties in the parliament which are Åland Party and Finnish Party.

Local governments

Each municipality has its own governor.. Governers have power in the municipality that they have controll over but have to follow the laws set by the president or the parliament and the president can order construction without the say of any of the governors. Governors can also make their own policies for their municipality.

Elections

Every year there are presidential, parliamentary and governor election. The presidential election is on the 28 February, parliamentary elections on 28 March and the governor elections on 1 May.

Before every presidential election there are presdiential primaries to choose which two candiates should run for president.
