The Parliament of the Åland State is the legislure of the Åland State. Parliament was established when the second draft of the constitution was signed.

History

The parliament was established when the second draft of the constitution was signed. The Åland Party led by Axel Himberg and the Finnish Party led by Wilmer Himberg are the two parties in the first Parliament of the Åland State. On the 20 June 2024, Himberg would sign the Second 2024 Åland State Reform act which would bring back elections and give back a seat to the Finnish party in parliament. On 28 May Himberg would sign the 2024 Åland State Government Reform Act where the parliament would be suspended untill the 1 June. Marius Åkerblom would become vice president when he would come back and elections would be suspended.

Structure

The Parliament is led by the speaker of parliament who is the vice president, after the election on 28 February 2024 the vice president of the winning president will become the speaker of parliament.

Legislative Powers

Parliament can veto any laws or policies that the preisdent signs if half of parliament votes for it. Parlimament votes for trade deals and allicances that the president signs. Parlaiment can hold an emergency vote to veto a declaration of war passed by the president. Parliament can not veto executive orders from the president.
